Minimum Requirements:Research Assistant II : Associate's degree in a related field and one or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience. Grade 2 Wage Range Minimum $16.51 Midpoint $20.67 Maximum $24.77Research Assistant III : Bachelor's degree in a related field and one or more years of research experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience. Grade 3 Wage Range Minimum $18.56 Midpoint $23.23 Maximum $27.85Position Description:Immediate opening for a Research Assistant II or III position is available in the Center for Cardiometabolic Science/Envirome Institute at the University of Louisville. The position will be filled at the level as determined by education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate. Research will focus on understanding how changes in metabolism influence cardiac and skeletal muscle remodeling in both health and disease. Experience that includes one or more of the following is highly desired: primary cell culture, confocal/fluorescent microscopy, small animal handling, gel-based techniques, radiolabeled tracer analyses, PCR, western blotting, etc.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assist in ongoing studies in the laboratory.Direct, conduct, and organize data collection and analysis activities, coordinate and schedule research activities.Breeding and colony management of research animals (i.e. mouse breeding and genotyping).Perform gel-based separation of proteins and nucleic acids.Immunohistochemical staining and imaging using high end microscopy instrumentation with subsequent downstream analyses.Ability to follow instructions and protocols to perform basic biochemical assays.Organize and conduct statistical analysis of data generated from study results.Prepare written reports and documents pertaining to data management, research methodology, and study results.Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and biosafety activities.Maintain an organized record of reagents, samples, and lab materials.All other duties as assignedPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science and 2-3 years of related experience in at least one or more of the following: animal handling, primary cell isolation and culture, cloning, fluorescence/confocal imaging experience, surgical expertise, protein and nucleic acid biochemistry, and animal models of health and disease.The ability to work independently and timely.Proficient in MS outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad, R studio, with effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Exceptional organizational and communication skills and ability to work with a highly interactive group.Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of Louisville is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and is committed to providing employment opportunities to all qualified applicants without regard to race, sex, age, color, national origin, ethnicity, creed, religion, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, marital status, pregnancy, or veteran status.
