University of Louisville Research Assistant II in Louisville, Kentucky

Minimum Requirements:Associate’s degree in a related field and one (1) or more years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 2 (Hourly)Position Description:The Microbiology & Immunology department at the University of Louisville is seeking a Research Assistant II. This position will prepare and perform experiments in a research laboratory and assist other laboratory members in doing the same. The Research Assistant II will assist in various research projects within our lab. This role involves conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring the smooth operation of lab activities. Experience with rodent models and molecular biology techniques will be preferable. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare materials for self and other lab members to perform experimental procedures.Perform experimental procedures involving biomedical research.Perform routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals, including minor surgical procedures, administration of drugs and testing animal genotypes.Record and consolidate data collected from experimental and animal procedures.Use online databases to collect information needed for the performance of experimental procedures.Maintain and operate a variety of laboratory equipment.Instruct others in laboratory procedures and techniques.Perform related duties as assigned.Order laboratory reagents and help maintaining the regulatory documents.Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s in Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience.Proficient in one or more experimental procedures related to biomedical research.Proficient in use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet browsing.Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.Proficiency or familiarity with the following experimental techniques:Manipulation and care of experimental animals (mice).Polymerase chain reaction assays (PCR).Sterile technique and tissue culture of mammalian cell-lines and primary cells.Gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting.Flow cytometry.ELISA.CompetenciesWork Ethic: motivated, diligent and industrious, stays on tasks to completion.Organized: manages time effectively, keeps tasks appropriately prioritized, works at a fast pace to ensure efficiency.Flexible: ability to learn new procedures, think through challenges and resolve them.Teamwork: communicates effectively to understand instructions, report and discuss experimental challenges or problems, help others be productive in a laboratory environment.Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of Louisville is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and is committed to providing employment opportunities to all qualified applicants without regard to race, sex, age, color, national origin, ethnicity, creed, religion, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, marital status, pregnancy, or veteran status.
