Louisville Metro Government Nutrition Services Specialist in Louisville, Kentucky

Description

Essential Functions:

Assesses and counsel clients regarding nutrition needs
Prepares training materials and instructs clients in nutrition principles, diet, food selection and economics


Examples of Duties


Examples of Work:

UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Maintains records and files
Prepares reports and correspondence, completes special projects, and maintains records and files
Participates in clinic operations by interviewing and assessing the nutritional status of clients, and certifies clients for participation in nutrition programs
Records diets, histories and related personal information of clients in medical records
Develops, obtains, and distributes nutrition and education materials
Counsel clients in nutrition principles, diets, food selection and economics for adaptation to lifestyles
Prepares and conducts nutrition education lectures and classes for clients and other groups
Participates in training sessions and consultations with professional and support personnel concerning basic nutrition, therapeutic diets, and program services
Provides instruction to clerical personnel
Performs related work


Minimum Requirements


Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:

Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree
Dietetics
Nutrition
Related field

Other Minimums:

GENERAL
Must provide one's own source of transportation
Completion of a pre-professional experience program accredited/approved by the American Dietetic Association
Must be eligible for certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration at time of application
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must work a varied schedule

CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION TEAM
Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment

Special Requirements:

Must be certified as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration within one year of employment
Must be licensed as a Dietitian or certified as a Nutritionist by the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians and Nutritionists within one year of employment
Diabetes Prevention and Education Program: In accordance with KRS 309.325 to 309.339, dietitians performing diabetes education must be a Licensed Diabetes Educator or be eligible for licensure within six months of date of employment
Women Infants and Children (WIC): Must be a certified lactation counselor or specialist or obtain within six months of employment


Supplemental Information

This full-time position includes Call-out and On-Call compensation.
