What do Mercer Transportation Log Auditors Do?A Log Auditor plays a very important role in ensuring that owner-operators leased to Mercer Transportation Co., Inc. remain compliant with federal hours-of-service (HOS) regulations put in place by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Auditing driver’s logs aids in the reduction of unnecessary violations that negatively affects Mercer’s compliance, safety, accountability (CSA) score. This role provides customer service and training to drivers on compliance requirements.Job Expectations of a Log Auditor:Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. This position is subject to an overnight on-call rotation that would include weekends. Audits driver daily record of duty status (logs), both visually and by computer, for violations of Federal Hours of Service Regulations and Mercer policy. Discusses hours of service violations with drivers. Instructs new drivers on Mercer’s log requirements and re-orients drivers with recurring violations. Aids in troubleshooting and informing drivers on electronic logging device (ELD) best practices and how to operate the Omnitracs IVG-LTE ELD and dash camera. Trains newly hired log auditors. Processes faxed logs in emergency situations. Enters new driver information and cancellations in the Omnitracs/Solera systems. Reviews violation letters or corresponding issues and adds a message in Check Call to alert Truck Coordinators of any issues. Answers driver’s questions about logs, violation letters, or other compliance issues. Stocks and mails supplies for existing drivers and contractors. Essential Skills and Experience: Preferred one (1) year of clerical experience, of which must have included multi-phone system, customer service and/or similar business acumen, with concentration on organization, coordination, and performance of duties at a responsible level. Working knowledge of U.S. geography. Ability to answer phones, maintain accurate correspondence and field/answer all routine and non-routine questions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey information effectively and provide others with a clear understanding of information. Ability to provide full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop systems and processes. Ability to work both independently and as a team on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Use keyboard, mouse, 10-key calculator, and other office equipment with proficiency.
