Louisville MSD Laboratory Analyst I in Louisville, Kentucky

Job SummaryPerforms wet chemistry, analysis and bacteriological examination related to monitoring the treatment of surface water, wastewater, industrial waste, soils, sludges and biosolids according to established standard operating procedures. Maintains and troubleshoots related instrumentation. Responsible for the inventory, ordering and quality assurance related to all chemicals and supplies related to testing. Responsible for all related data quality review and data entry into the laboratory database. Provides quality peer review of data. Essential Job FunctionsPerform physical, chemical and bacteriological analyses of water, wastewater and related materials within the laboratory. Follows established procedures. Performs analytical instrumental and analysis work using pH meters, Spectrophotometer and various other instruments. Performs analyses such as: Solids, Demand, pH, Nitrogen and Microbiological examinations. May collect routine samples for analysis from specific locations as conditions and requirements dictate. Prepares chemicals, reagents, bacteriological media, and standard test solutions. Cleans, calibrates and maintains laboratory, equipment, and instruments. Provides peer data review as part of the lab QC program. Maintains inventory of supplies. Interacts with sampling personnel. Provides technical information regarding proper collection and sampling for specific analytes. Performs safety inspections. Performs other related duties as assigned or as judgment/necessity dictates. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the WorkKnowledge of laboratory procedures and methods; knowledge of laboratory testing, quality control measures, statistics and LIMS; skill in using a PC and associated Windows software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); ability to operate basic laboratory instrumentation and related equipment; ability to perform gravimetric analyses, titrations, distillations and microscopic evaluations; ability to perform mathematical calculations; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to understand oral and written instructions; ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to work in a team environment; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure. Minimum RequirementsBachelor Degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related field; no experience required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
