Job SummaryPrepares trainees to meet the minimum industry safety standards required by OSHA and the company’s safety standards for a safe work environment. Assists in the assessment, development, and implementation of employee safety and training programs. Integrates safe working practices into operational procedures. Coordinates with HR Training Department to conduct safety training for CPR, AED, First Aid, 40 hour Hazwoper and Hazmat re-certifications, OSHA 10 hour, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, ARC Flash, and Respirator Protection, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Assists with training and compliance for the MSD Drug and Alcohol Policy, Vehicle Accident Review Committee (VARC), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for MSD fleet vehicles. Develops and delivers training for a range of safety programs covering all aspects of conventional Health and Safety.Essential Job FunctionsAssists with administering the Drug and Alcohol Policy training and compliance program. Assists the VARC Chairperson with coordinating driver improvement training programs and processes. Conducts and coordinates quarterly training for emergency response team (ERT) and annual hazmat re-certifications. Assists with planning, organizing, and administering safety training courses for MSD. Develops knowledge and trains employees on safe work practices, accident/injury prevention, health hazards, DOT compliance regulations, and other health and safety topics. Assists the HR training department with OSHA 10 hour general industry and construction training, ARC flash/NFPA 70E, walking/working surfaces, lifting, first aid, respirator protection, and all other safety training programs. Develops and delivers new hire orientation for safety related training to include confined space entry, trench/excavation, and fall protection training. Develops new programs and procedures and provides training instruction and coaching to improve and maintain safe working conditions for MSD. Assists with training needs assessments. Maintains training records on health and safety delivered courses. Administers, evaluates and interprets safety training programs, and works in conjunction with training department in developing safety training programs and materials. Ensures required updates are made to employee training records. Maintains adherence to company health and safety rules set forth by OSHA. Discusses and obtains support for safety training and development viewpoints, programs, and services. Helps individuals apply current and new safety related knowledge to their work. Communicates with management and provides reports on required training and training progress. Assists the Health and Safety Administrators with the day-to-day operations and conducting vehicle accidents and injury investigations. Performs all other duties related to safety activities as assigned by the Facilities, Safety and Security Director. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the WorkKnowledge of adult learning principles and training design and delivery methods; knowledge of relevant regulatory standards, including OSHA and DOT regulations; knowledge of state and federal safety regulations and standards; skill in verbal and written communication; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, etc.); ability to demonstrate presentation and public speaking skills; ability to adapt to changing work environments; ability to deliver various safety training programs to a diverse workforce; ability to administer employee safety assessment programs; ability to learn MSD policies and regulatory obligations; ability to exercise judgment and discretion; ability to work in a team environment; ability to resolve problems; ability to maintain accurate and confidential records/information; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure. Minimum RequirementsBachelor degree in occupational safety or a related field; three or more years of safety experience in construction and general industry; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Certification as an occupational safety specialist or other safety qualification from a nationally recognized certifying authority preferred. Safety training certification from OSHA and/or a nationally recognized certifying authority preferred. Experience with safety policies and procedures in a physical plant environment preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
