Louisville Metro Government Engineering Technician in Louisville, Kentucky

Description

Essential Functions:

Provides engineering technical support in the design and construction of public works, roads, bridges, drainage, capital improvement and related projects
Analyzes and computes engineering project costs on a preliminary designs according to procedures, standards, specifications, plans and contract documents
Provides information to engineers, other government agencies and the public concerning the status of engineering projects and studies

Examples of Duties

Examples of Work:

UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Compiles data, performs research and completes special projects
Reviews subdivision and site development plans and issues encroachment permits
Performs basic traffic engineering and erosion control studies, elevation work and field measurements, and computer-aided drafting and mapping assignments
Researches and analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photographs, and other topographic or geologic data to determine property and right-of-way boundaries
Performs preliminary analysis of land use, demographics and other information resources, and provides reports to senior staff
Revises traffic engineering street intersection drawings and street and alley closing maps
Calculates cost estimates and prepares construction specifications
Visits construction site to monitor surveying activities, installation layout, staking, and grading
Enters data into computer mapping system database and prints maps for engineering projects
Reviews road, utility easement, and right-of-way plans to determine accuracy and conformance to laws, regulations and engineering principles
Performs related work

Minimum Requirements

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Conducts inspections and reviews plans

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree
Business Administration
Construction Technology
Drafting and Design Technology
Engineering Technology
Public Administration
Related field

Three years of engineering technician, surveying, computer mapping or engineering plans and specifications review experience

Other Minimums:

Must provide one's own source of transportation

Equivalency:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
