Overview
This position performs engineering analysis of the LG&E and KU transmission system, which includes identifying system constraints, evaluating potential solutions, and recommending projects or operating guides to mitigate the constraints.
Position to be filled at the Engineer I, II, III, or Principal level based upon applicant's qualifications and background.
Responsibilities
Build dynamic and steady state computer models of the interconnected transmission system that represent the near-term and long-term planning horizon.
Analyze steady state power flow and dynamic simulations in accordance with the LG&E and KU Transmission Planning Guidelines, which incorporates the NERC TPL-001 reliability standard, to identify areas of improvement.
Support the Independent Transmission Organization (ITO) in the performance of Generator Interconnection (GI) and Transmission Service Request (TSR) studies.
Contribute to GI and TSR queue reform keeping in line with advancing industry standards and practices.
Identify and recommend transmission projects to reliably serve customers at the lowest reasonable cost.
Prepare compliance documentation and identify evidence to be used in audits for compliance with NERC Reliability standards.
Participate in various reliability and regulatory study groups as assigned.
Provide engineering support to other groups as necessary.
Serve as a liaison between Transmission Strategy & Planning and the ITO.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education
ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in required.
Preferred Experience
Proficient in mathematics and the use of Microsoft Office products.
Some experience using Python programming language.
Good interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Reasonable business acumen.
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
Five (5) years of experience in Transmission planning, building power system models and evaluating power flow and stability/dynamics data, using diverse programming languages.
Experience with protection schemes, communications networks and protocols, and equipment commissioning.
Excellent ability to navigate interpersonal relationships to bring disparate technical groups towards one goal.
