Lockheed Martin Staff Solid State Laser and Non-linear Optics Engineer in Louisville, Colorado
Description: This position requires ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.
The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. The ATC is seeking a Staff Solid State Laser and Non-linear optical Engineer with expertise in the development of lasers/amplifiers and nonlinear optical systems and devices. You should have experience in the design and modeling of lasers/amplifiers and frequency conversion devices, familiarity with current state-of-the-art in solid- state lasers/amplifiers and nonlinear optical materials, and experience with the characterization and optimization of laser and nonlinear optical systems.
Additional knowledge of related laser-based remote sensing technologies is desired, including coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences.
Some of your responsibilities in this role will include the following:
• Selection of laser and/or nonlinear optical technologies
• Design of laser and nonlinear optical systems and devices
• Evaluation of predicted performance through computational modeling and analysis
• Laboratory testing and experimental demonstration
• Prototype development
• System analysis and integration
• Field demonstration
• Contribution to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals is expected.
We are looking for someone with excellent written/presentation/oral communication skills to communicate with diverse audiences.
Basic Qualifications:
• Experience in the design of solid-state laser and nonlinear optical systems and devices, including laser resonators, amplifiers, and parametric frequency converters.
• Experience in modeling and analysis of pulsed solid-state lasers and/or nonlinear optical frequency conversion using software tools such as MATLAB and/or Zemax.
• Significant experience in one or more of the following areas: customized simulations of laser physics and quantum electronics, diffractive beam propagation, thermo-optic effects and parametric processes
• Strong knowledge of laser and optical physics
• Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance
Desired Skills:
• Advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related fields is strongly desired.
• Experience in related laser-based remote sensing technologies (i.e. coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences, optical detection, signal/image processing).
• Field-related contacts/network.
• Experience with product development, technology development and technology transition.
• Expertise in high-power ruggedized pulsed and continuous-wave laser systems is desired.
• Experience as a proposal and/or white paper technical author.
• Expertise in optical and opto-mechanical modeling software such as NX and/or Fred is desired.
• Technical leadership of laser and NLO hardware transition to high TRL (for terrestrial, airborne, and/or space applications).
• Active DoD security clearance.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $109,500 - $209,900. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
