Netflix Research Scientist (L4) - Studio Media Algorithms in Los Gatos, California

The Studio Media Algorithms team is at the forefront of innovation to enhance and support the vision of creators of movies, TV shows and other multimedia work. This team's work is responsible for increasing member value, and driving efficiency of the content creation process, ultimately creating more joy for viewers all over the world.

We are looking for a Research Scientist with demonstrated experience in computer vision and generative AI to research and develop algorithms and models that enhance the creative tools used in production processes. In this role, you will:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate algorithmic solutions for variety of problems in the animation, VFX, and games space

  • Pushing forward the state of the art in image and video generation as needed, collaborating with teams developing foundational media generation models

  • Expand your technical depth and domain expertise into new/adjacent areas as the business needs and the state of technology evolve

  • Contribute to additional components of the machine learning pipeline for the algorithms you develop as they move into production

  • Work cross-functionally with engineers, scientists, artists, and product leaders across teams, to navigate ambiguity in identifying and prioritizing opportunities and problem requirements

About you:

  • Research experience with a successful track record of delivering quality results and/or academic publications in top ML/CV venues

  • Expertise in designing and training deep learning (DL) architectures for image or video generation, with a broad understanding of DL methods and literature, including diffusion models

  • Extensive experience with DL frameworks such as Tensorflow (https://www.tensorflow.org/) or PyTorch (https://pytorch.org/)

  • Great interpersonal skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical partners

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C+

  • Bonus experience:

  • Computer Graphics (familiarity with modern techniques and tools, including VFX and game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, or Nuke)

  • 3D vision and reconstruction

  • Domain experience in visual effects, games, or animation, and track record of developing tools/solutions in these (or closely relevant) areas, or experience with tools like ComfyUI

  • Deep mathematical skills with knowledge of statistical methods and optimization

  • Experience with aspects of machine learning engineering, including data pipelines, benchmarking, etc

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
