Netflix Distributed Systems Engineer (L6) - Data Discovery & Governance in Los Gatos, California

We are looking for a highly experienced, collaborative engineer to lead our technical charter (http://docs.google.com/document/d/1urpMy1UQA8QYO9YMylS07eigG0NlyQQ0IvEhm9PbMLg/edit) for Data Discovery and Governance. The role will be supported by close partnership with Product Managers, cross-functional engineering teams, and data platform customers.
In this role, you will:
Work closely with product managers and customers to define the technical strategy and roadmap for data discovery and governance at Netflix.
Lead the architecture and design of services such as the Netflix-wide Data Catalog, Distributed Search, and Lineage which are foundational to the Data Discovery and Governance ecosystem.
Act as a liaison between Data Platform and other organizations to build a cohesive Metadata Strategy across Netflix as we expand beyond streaming into Live and Games.
Mentor senior developers in owning the implementation and rollout of complex features that impact Netflix broadly.
Set the example for operational excellence on the team, continuously improving incident response, and evolving operational best practices.
Maintain currency on industry trends for new architectures, features, and off-the-shelf services; guide the team’s decision-making regarding incorporating industry trends and making build vs buy decisions.

Qualifications:
12+ years of experience in crafting complex and scalable distributed systems.
Proficiency in Java, C++, Golang, or Python with a solid understanding of multi-threading and memory management.
Domain expertise in building infrastructure for Data Discovery and Governance at a large organization.
Proven track record of building customer-facing products and passion for building for ease of use for the customer.
Technical leadership to empower the team around you and maximize the contributions of diverse stakeholders, including product managers, peer engineers, and others.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $230,000 - $960,000.
