The External Games team Technical Director will work as part of the External Games leadership team to support delivering external developer partners’ games successfully to our members. The ideal candidate is excited to leverage broad games engineering leadership and strategic experience partnering with producers, business development, and our internal Netflix product and technology teams. An ideal team member has a deep understanding of the technology considerations having collaborated on multi-discipline teams to build and release a wide variety of games with both client and backend/live service considerations as well as their implications to business, production, and design. This leader will get deeply involved in numerous efforts, including but not limited to developer partner and project due diligence and deal signing, service and platform integrations, influence, and game and portfolio health; previous experience in similar roles in publishing-oriented organizations is also ideal. Responsibilities:
Partner with Head of External Games and Head of Tech for Games Studios on the broader technical and engineering strategy to ensure dots are connected across the organization
Accountable for Technical Leadership across External Games including External developers, the games they are creating, and cross-functional partnerships
Connecting Strategy to Technical Considerations and Opportunities and supporting BD and Producers to execute with these considerations in mind
Partnering with BD and cross-functional teams on External Developer due diligence
Drive highly effective collaboration across multiple cross-functional partners and External Games, primarily with Partner Engineers, Platform, Product, Games Technology, and Cloud Streaming Teams.
Partner with Engineering on supporting the needs of developers specific to the games they are releasing on Netflix
Partner with Engineering and Product on TRCs and Security requirements to ensure they filter correctly to our External Developers
Qualifications:
Experience as a Technical Director in both publishing and game development is a must
8+ years experience shipping multiple games (social, F2P, mobile, web, console, handheld)
Experience with multiple complex engineering problems across a variety of genres
Familiarity/expertise in a wide spectrum of game-relevant technologies including Unity, Unreal, “custom” engines, backend services and systems, game platforms, etc.
Excellent communication approach with the ability to work with a variety of people
Ability to influence direction, without relying on positional authority
An uncanny knack for arriving at solutions through unconventional methods and developing a plan to put them into action
Passionate about playing and creating games
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100,000 - $500,000 USD. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits.
