UCLA Health Staff Research Associate 2 in Los Angeles, California

Description

Join our cutting-edge research team focused on supporting both the Yiu Lab (Rheumatology) and the Crooks Lab (Pathology), each focused on lymphoid and stem cell development in disease contexts. The Yiu Lab specializes in immune cell development and therapies for autoimmunity and immunodeficiency, while the Crooks Lab focuses on engineered T cell therapies and the thymic microenvironment.

As a key team member, you will perform technical research involving cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, gene editing, RNA sequencing, and mouse models to study human immune responses. You'll also handle lab management duties, such as maintaining records, equipment, and supplies.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential. You'll contribute original ideas, train others, and stay current on relevant techniques and research. This role requires a passion for science and a proactive approach to research.

Salary: $28.88 - $46.46 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of chemistry and molecular biology assays including CUT&RUN.

  • Prior experience with human cell culture and cellular immunology methods.

  • Knowledge of accepted analytical practices, weighing, solution preparation, etc.

  • Knowledge of bioscience terminology.

  • Knowledge of all safety precautions necessary to work in a laboratory environment, including work with chemicals, equipment mechanical and electrical), biological samples, etc.

  • Skill in the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to be used in making reagents and in performing calculations.* Skill in performing under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy, and productivity.

  • Ability to respond positively and cooperatively to temporary changes in work schedule.

  • Ability to work available hours/shifts/days and extra hours as required to meet lab needs.

  • Ability to work safely in an environment with variations in temperature, instrument noise, usage of toxic or hazardous chemicals, fumes, odors, and biological agents.

Preferred:

  • BS or higher degree in Biological-related field with appropriate lab experience.

  • Experience with mouse experiments and mouse handling.
