DoorDash Software Engineer, Test Platform in Los Angeles, California

About the Team

Come help us build the world's most reliable on-demand, logistics engine for delivery! We’re bringing on experienced engineers to help us build a global infrastructure system that powers DoorDash’s three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers.

As DoorDash continues improving its offerings to an expanding customer base, making changes to systems in a quick yet reliable way, free from unintended side-effects, becomes more difficult without the right frameworks in place to manage the corresponding growth in system complexity and scale. Test Platform is the central infrastructure team that is building the platform which tackles this problem for all of DoorDash Engineering. We believe that the two foundational tenets of reliability and velocity are not mutually exclusive, and through the frameworks, tooling, and abstractions we are building, we can help engineers better manage change in this complex system so they can both move faster and with more confidence.

About the Role

The Test Platform team provides a central platform that powers the software development lifecycle across all engineering teams at DoorDash. The team does so by providing three main capabilities:

  • Safely & scalably validate changes to any part of our systems in a high fidelity environment reflective of real-world system behavior.

  • Accelerate both the inner and outer development loops by using the best technologies to build tools and libraries that addresses user pain points and makes development and testing easier.

  • Evolve DoorDash’s testing & quality strategy by setting in place the right development processes, frameworks, and culture, such as forming a healthy Test Pyramid across the codebase, to make it easier for engineering teams to achieve high quality and velocity.

This role will report to the Engineering Manager over the Test Platform team.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Help guide the future of DoorDash’s reliability and quality strategy, by building, extending, and operating a central platform used by all our engineering teams.

  • Lead cross-functional projects by designing, developing, and delivering significant features and components, with engineering excellence and best practices in mind.

  • Have the opportunity to solve different kinds of interesting problems by working across a variety of infrastructure layers and tech stacks.

  • Work with the most modern technologies in a fully cloud environment (AWS) such as Kubernetes, Envoy (service mesh), Spinnaker, OpenTelemetry, CockroachDB, Prometheus, etc, and contribute back to open source projects.

  • Work with a team of motivated, and collaborative teammates, and provide mentorship for more junior engineers on the team.

    We’re excited about you because…

  • You have 2+ years of experience (not including internship) working in the infrastructure and platform layer and have demonstrated effectiveness in building and managing them at scale.

  • You can dive deep across various infrastructure layers and tech stacks and can effectively evaluate issues, identify gaps, and build automated solutions to address them.

  • You possess strong cross-functional collaboration skills and can drive the execution of large projects with multiple stakeholders forward.

  • You have prior experience building test platforms or engineering productivity frameworks at high growth companies.

  • You have prior experience with modern infrastructure tooling, such as Kubernetes, as an administrator, operator, or power user in a production setting.

  • You have strong development skills in Kotlin, Java, or Golang programming languages, and have strong knowledge of Linux or similar operating systems and networking.
