The USC Roski Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology, is seeking a highly trained professional to fill the position of Research Associate, located on the Health Science Campus.

A Research Associate is needed in the department of Ophthalmology to support the research project that is ongoing under the supervision of Dr. Sun Young Lee.

The candidate’s participation in vitro and in vivo experiments will be critical to complete the NEI/NIH awarded project. For this, the laboratory led by Dr. Sun Young Lee, in the Department of Ophthalmology at the USC Roski Eye Institute, is recruiting a highly motivated research associate to lead a project using intraocular EV therapy to develop new therapeutics for chorioretinal neovascularization (CNV). Lee’s lab uses advanced technologies, including EV isolation, EV characterization, and EV engineering. Dr. Lee’s lab also uses in-vivo and in-vitro models of various retinal diseases. The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cell biology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or related disciplines and at least 5 years of post-doctoral fellowship training in relevant vision research.

Job Summary:

Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with supervisor. Analyzes research data and provides interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.

Job Accountabilities include:

  • Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with supervisor.

  • Identifies, researches, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to area of specialization.

  • Analyzes and evaluates research data utilizing computers and provides interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research. Searches literature, utilizing all available resources including electronic, regarding new methodology and designs experiments accordingly.

  • Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.

  • Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory/scientific equipment.

  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Enthusiasm to explore new techniques and concepts, and adherence to highest ethical principles while working with laboratory animals.

Preferred Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate

Preferred Experience: 5 years

Preferred Field of Expertise: Retina cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry.

Posting Salary Range:

The salary rate range for this position is $66,902.30 - $83,394.69. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
