We are seeking a Staff Research Assistant 1 to join the Translational Pathology Core Laboratory (TPCL), which facilitates biomedical research by providing remnant human tissue samples and histology services. TPCL collects, processes, stores, and distributes remnant surgical tissues to approved UCLA researchers and offers services like embedding, sectioning, staining, digital imaging, and immunohistochemistry. Primary duties include:

• Receive tissue samples from clinical pathology staff for distribution as fresh tissues or for banking.

• Freeze or process tissues in formalin, documenting all banked or distributed samples.

• Accurately enter and manage sample information in a secure database.

• Collaborate with pathology and frozen section room staff to expedite surgical specimen delivery.

• Assist with embedding (paraffin and OCT), sectioning (paraffin and frozen), and staining (H&E, special stains, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) of tissues.

• Prepare solutions, maintain laboratory equipment, and perform quality control checks.

• Evaluate tissue section and stain quality, troubleshoot technical issues, and document all work.

• Consult with biomedical researchers to understand research protocols and techniques and project requirements.

Salary Range: $26.52/hour - $31.63/hour

Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a Pathology laboratory - highly preferred.

• Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
