Project Specialist Position
Timeline: Fixed term request—From hire to June 2025

Position Overview
The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Claradina Soto, is seeking an 80% FTE project specialist for a fixed-term position. The successful candidate will join a research team focused on addressing health disparities in American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) communities.
The project specialist will support various initiatives, with a primary focus on a policy advocacy training program. This virtual training program is designed to equip professionals and community members with essential policy advocacy skills for addressing substance use issues in AIAN communities. The training program combines asynchronous and synchronous learning, allowing participants to engage with online materials independently, and then participate in live Zoom sessions for discussion and feedback on their advocacy efforts. The training program aims to enhance understanding of public policy-making, raise awareness of policy impacts in AIAN communities, and develop advocacy and policy skills. Under the guidance of the project manager, the project specialist will oversee all aspects of training program coordination, ensuring smooth program execution, and will work with the training program facilitator to refine curriculum components and improve training program logistics.
Key Responsibilities
Training Program Improvement
Collaborate with the training program facilitator to enhance both asynchronous and synchronous curriculum components.
Integrate and manage a learning management system within the existing training program framework.
Develop and implement strategies to increase training program applications and participant engagement.
Project Coordination
Manage asynchronous program materials using Articulate 360.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive timeline and logistical plan for the training program covering the entire grant period.
Design and manage the logistics of participant recruitment and the application process.
Maintain clear, friendly, and effective communication with participants.
Organize and support synchronous virtual sessions, discussions, and activities.
Monitor participant progress and provide ongoing support.
Ensure adherence to quality assurance procedures throughout the training program.
Maintain detailed records of all aspects of the training program, including applicant and participant information, statuses, communications, issues encountered, and data collection.
Use REDCap to create and administer feedback surveys and manage the application process.
Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and documentation management.
Reporting
Prepare implementation plans and progress reports for funder.
Qualifications
Required
Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred
Experience working with AIAN communities.
A master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
Proficiency with REDCap or similar data management tools.
Travel Requirements
- The position may require travel throughout California, approximately 10% of the time.

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.40 - $37.88.
