UCLA Health Hospital Assistant I - PACU/PTU, Westwood in Los Angeles, California

Description

Incumbent will perform duties as a Hospital Assistant to include. Major functions include: patient care; specimens, and equipment transport; patient transport; equipment maintenance, environmental sanitation, restocking supplies, cleaning soiled supplies, assist in code blue situation; ensuring adequate supply of pump, PCA's, PCEA's; assist RN/Charge RN in duties deemed necessary; demonstrate CICARE guidelines. Other duties include but are not limited to: customer service and departmental efficiencies.

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of department specialty equipment (name, storage location, use, basic function, and trouble-shooting)

  2. Strictly obeys the healthcare regulations for infection control: failure to adhere to these regulations will result in disciplinary action.

  3. Consistently demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  4. Actively participates in Quality Management and PIE programs.

  5. Consistently adheres to UCLA Operating Room Services policies and procedures.

  6. Adheres to safety/department employee requirements: i.e. Infection Control Module, Staff Information Handbook, Tb screening, etc. Attends all inservices/workshops as requested. Attends and participates in required fire, safety, disaster, body mechanics, etc. classes and/or drills.

  7. Always ensures a safe working environment for self and co-workers. Monitors and reports unsafe acts or conditions and takes appropriate proactive steps to resolve and/or report. Consistently maintains good guest relations interdepartmentally, intradepartmentally, using English language in both written and verbal format, uses good telephone etiquette, sensitive to co-workers, patients, physicians, and family members, consistently maintains a courteous and respectful manner, confidentiality of patients, healthcare or physician related information

  8. Maintains a positive attitude and behavior: efficient and productive with time utilization. Strives to be a team player. Adapts to change in workload. Conducts personal business on break or lunchtime.

  9. Always responds to the needs of all areas. If unable to meet their needs keeps them informed and offers alternatives. Prioritizes appropriately and knows when to call for assistance.

  10. Communicates with colleagues to ensure efficient and safe practice. Appropriately uses the chain of command to resolve/address work-related issues

  11. Able to rotate efficiently to all shifts as assigned.

  12. Knowledge of the department's physical layout, and location of other UCLA Medical Center departments and areas (i.e. PTU, PACU, UPU, Blood Bank, SPD, morgue, etc.).

  13. Knowledge of Operating Room zones (unrestricted, semi-restricted, and restricted)

  14. Skilled in using department's communication systems (i.e. airphones, Spectralink phones, telephones, report books, etc.).

  15. Knowledge of patient needs based on developmental and chronological age and surgical specialty service (i.e. transport of patient, positioning, etc.).

  16. Knowledge of disinfection principles and use of disinfecting agents.

  17. Knowledge of basic principles of aseptic technique as applicable (i.e. tying sterile surgical gowns, donning sterile gloves).

  18. Skill in operating an addressograph machine.

  19. Able to fulfill call requirements and responsibilities.

  20. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner.

  21. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with moderate direction, taking direction from authority.

  22. Skill in performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.

  23. Skill in working as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues.

  24. Knowledge about General Surgery cases regarding equipment, positioning, specific needs, supplies, etc.

  25. Adheres to department guidelines regarding attendance and punctuality.

  26. Skill in maintaining composure in stressful situations
