USC Summer Programs offers students a preview of “freshman year” through its college immersion experience. Students explore Los Angeles as a laboratory for cultural learning beyond the traditional classroom. Our programs are designed to combine college level coursework, academic field trips, and structured extracurricular activities. USC Summer Programs offers 4-week courses in a variety of subjects from which students choose one course for intense study. Courses are interactive, engaging, and challenging, and students receive 3 units of transferrable USC elective credit upon successful completion of the 4-Week program.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions and Residential Life the Health and Safety Coordinator is a temporary full-time, live-in professional position supporting, roughly, 850 students and 86 residential assistant staff. This position will work directly with students who experience difficulties within the program due to any sickness or physical health challenge. This role performs a variety of important daily operational tasks and requires the highest level of flexibility, communication, and a positive attitude to both students and peers.
Responsibilities:
Serve as an on-call residential lead to support the safety and security of the residence halls and residents. This includes evenings and weekends.
Must be able to work and live on campus for the entire duration of the program to ensure a safe and community-oriented experience for students and staff.
Assist the Associate Director in the coordination of student health center visits. This includes scheduling student appointments, and maintaining record of HC visits by summer program participants.
Maintain health/emergency support and documentation. Document all student medical concerns that are addressed by the Student Health Center or another clinic/hospital.
Assist the Associate Director with the coordination of RAs so all students have a staff member that accompanies them to the Student Health Center.
Serve as the accompanying staff member for all off-campus medical visits.
Assist the Associate Director with the coordination and schedule of international students who have to be tested for TB at the university health center.
Assist the Associate Director with the COVID-19 response plan as documented by USC policy, including the protocol and testing requirements of students who have to quarantine.
Establish rapport with students and RA staff through attentive listening, genuine care and support, awareness of student needs, and appropriate consultation and referral.
Participate in departmental leadership team check in meetings.
Participate in leadership team check in meetings and report updates to Senior Admin team.
Other duties as assigned by department leadership.
Required Position Dates and Work Schedule
Summer Prep: Tuesday, April 1 – Tuesday, June 10, 2025 (approximately 10 - 15 hours/week)
Summer Program RA Training & Programming: Wednesday, June 11 – Sunday, July 13, 2025 (full-time, live-in dates with evening and weekend hours required)
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $30/hour
Room and Board in USC Housing
USC Hospitality Residential Dining meal plan with three meals provided daily, including weekends
Planned Recreational and Program Activities, including the paid cost of admission fees and transportation. Past trips have included: Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Park, and Santa Monica Beach/3rd St. Promenade
