UCLA Health Clinical Nurse Navigator - Neurosurgery Spine in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Neurosurgery Department at UCLA is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to fill the role of Research Coordinator and Nurse Navigator for our Adult and Pediatric Spine Deformity Program. This multifaceted position requires a blend of clinical expertise, research coordination, patient navigation, and administrative skills to support the program's goals of delivering exceptional patient care and advancing scientific knowledge in the field of spine deformities.

Salary Range: $59.46 - $88.39/Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

  • Greater than 6 months nursing experience.

  • Clinical experience in neurosurgery, orthopedics, or related specialty, with a focus on spine deformity care.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach to care delivery.

  • Proficiency in medical terminology, electronic health records (EHRs), and research methodologies.

  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and expertise in triaging incoming calls and greeting patients in a high volume clinical environment.

  • Ability to collect and relay information with accuracy and diplomacy, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology to guide and triage patients to the different teams through medical records, and to respond quickly to patient needs and physician directions.

  • Ability to monitor patient compliance with plan of care and ensure gaps are closed around chronic disease.

  • Ability to recognize a patient's needs for referral to support services such as social work or psychology.

  • Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure.

  • Ability to independently prioritize and organize projects through multiple phases, meeting deadlines, and follow-through on multiple tasks simultaneously with careful attention to details, accuracy, completeness and thoroughness.

  • Ability to work and communicate with various providers and staff at different levels of patient care, and excellent coordination skills.

  • Demonstrate effective management of time and resources.

  • Excellent in planning, directing and coordinating.

  • Excellent skills in organization and prioritizing.

  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal or no supervision and as part of a team.

  • Skill in operating a PC and PC-based software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, EPIC, iCAP, and office equipment.

  • Knowledge and experience in the principles, practices and trends of management in a healthcare setting.

  • Ability to independently establish and maintain an effective filing system for ease of data retrieval.

  • Ability to triage patients to appropriate service to manage complicated symptoms Ability to follow physician orders to help manage patient symptoms.

  • Ability to utilize experience, in-depth knowledge and an intuitive grasp of the patient's condition to efficiently focus on the most significant patient problems.

  • Able to demonstrate critical thinking, a global grasp of the patient's condition, and an integration of formal and experimental knowledge in clinical decision making.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree

  • Prior experience in clinical research coordination, patient navigation, or healthcare administration.
