We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.

We're looking for a Camera Systems Engineer to join the Snap Lab team!

What you’ll do:

  • Develop next generation camera hardware based on customer feedback, user research, and product integration requirements including sensor selection and developing lens requirements.

  • Define and document camera subcomponent and module engineering requirements

  • Define testing and qualification plans of the camera lens at different stages of development, from concept to production

  • Collaborate with imaging firmware, tuning, and software engineers to properly develop testing and calibration solutions

  • Drive DFM with suppliers and manage technical and commercial risk through design

  • Support failure analysis and reliability testing and integrate corrective actions into future designs and process changes

  • Review process plans and propose and drive DOEs when necessary

  • Evaluate and debug camera hardware at module and product levels with supporting simulation

  • Travel to supplier facilities for product development and production bring-up (up to 15% international travel expected)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of standard miniature camera module assembly processes

  • Knowledge of the image signal processing pipeline

  • Familiarity with applications of computational photography and computer vision

  • Expertise in at least one of the following: mechanical design of injection-molded components, electrical design of high-speed circuits, lens design and fabrication of plastic optics for mobile cameras, or consumer electronics process development

  • Ability to work independently and manage internal and external resources

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in designing, testing, or building high-volume camera modules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field

  • Expertise in infrared illumination systems and sensors

  • Experience with compact camera image sensors, lenses, manufacturing, testing, and module suppliers

  • Experience managing vendors capable of high volume production and test processes for high-precision, high-volume modules

  • Experience with image quality evaluation including test charts, algorithms, and lighting

  • Experience with Python/Matlab/JMP for data analysis

  • Experience with image data manipulation and computation and interpretation of standard image quality metrics through Imatest or similar

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC) (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $184,000-$276,000 annually.

Zone B (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $175,000-$262,000 annually.

Zone C (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $156,000-$235,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
