Big Data Operations Analyst – Job Summary

The successful candidate will be part of the KBR team supporting the Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation & Test Analysis Suite (CHEETAS) Team working on prototype BD and KM systems for DoD testing Ranges and various acquisition programs. As an Operations Analyst you will be providing on-site (and remote) analytic support and solutions at DoD testing ranges and labs for various acquisition programs, events and experiments. To be successful in this position you will be expected to integrate and run various software and tools to make insightful recommendations based on data driven analysis of DoD datasets in front of stakeholders. You will be expected to interface with end users and stakeholders to gather and document: -requirements, -use cases and -analytical needs, design and implement enhancements to those tools and reports or provide feature requests to the various development teams and present analysis results to stakeholders, VIPs and with the wider team. Successful candidates will utilize BD and KM tools developed by: -TRMC, -government and industry partners, -yourself, -your teammates as well as commercial off the shelf tools and you will be expected to become proficient with the use, operation and minor troubleshooting of all of the tools.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As an Operations Analyst, you will be a critical part of the team that is responsible for delivering analytical capabilities to our end users. When supporting at sites, you will be the face of the CHEETAS Team and will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure stakeholders have the analytical tools, data products and reports they need to make insightful recommendations based on your data driven analysis

  • Directly assist non-analyst / non-technical stakeholders with the analysis of DoD datasets and demonstrating the 'art of the possible' to the stakeholders and VIPs with insights gained from your analysis of DoD Test and Evaluation (T&E) data

  • Effectively communicate at both a programmatic and technical level

  • Run and operate CHEETAS (and other tools), demonstrate these tools to stakeholders & VIPs

  • Convey analysis results

  • Adapt internally-developed tools, notebooks and reports to meet emerging needs

  • Gather use cases, requirements, gaps and needs from stakeholders and for larger development items to provide that information as feature requests or bug reports to the CHEETAS development team

  • Perform impromptu hands-on training sessions with end users and potentially troubleshoot problems from within closed networks without internet access (with support from distributed team members)

  • This position will require travel of 25% with potential surge to 50% to support end users located at various DoD ranges & labs located across the US and Hawaii.

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizens only.

  • Active or current Secret Clearance required - Top Secret Clearance preferred.

  • This position requires a degree in computer science, engineering, math, statistics, or information technology with preferred 10+ years of experience within DoD. Candidates with 5-10 years of DoD experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Entry level candidates will not be considered.

  • Previous experience should include working with end users, gathering requirements and refining/operating data analysis tools or products to meet user needs.

  • Previous experience should include analytics with DoD specific data types.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Experience using analytic languages, including Python or R, to process, analyze and visualize data.

  • Experience using analytic software tools, such as JupyterLab, Grafana or Tableau.

  • Experience generating and presenting reports, visualizations and findings to customers.

  • Experience using analysis methods, including time series, geospatial and regression.

  • Experience working with Windows, Linux, and containers, including installing, configuring and troubleshooting networked software.

  • Experience using databases and SQL.

  • Ability to make insightful recommendations based on data driven analysis and customer interactions.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with customers and teammates.

  • Ability to speak and present findings in front of large groups.

  • Ability to document and repeat procedures.

  • Ability to train novice end users on the use of tools.

  • Should be self-motivated to design, develop, enhance, reengineer or integrate software applications to improve the quality of data outputs available for end users.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an ORSA.

  • 10+ years of experience working in government / defense labs and within their computing restrictions.

  • Knowledge of military force structure and/or tactical messaging.

  • Experience working with major DoD experimentation events, such as Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) events.

  • Experience working with major DoD acquisition programs, such as Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

  • Knowledge of the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA), the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC) and distributed testing and training.

  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies.

Basic Compensation:

$160,000-$190,000
