Los Alamos National Laboratory Undergrad Student ST 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Nuclear & Radiochemistry Group is seeking a strong candidate who is interested in research work in nuclear radiation detection. The candidate must be enrolled in a university program of good standing. The selected student will work with a team of scientists on radiation detector design and measurement projects. The student will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Chemistry, Physics, and Nuclear Engineering and Nonproliferation Divisions. The Nuclear & Radiochemistry Group is part of the Chemistry Division, an organization with multi-disciplinary expertise that covers a large range of scientific topics and contributes significantly to LANL's diverse missions.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Coursework or advanced studies in science or engineering, while pursuing a science or engineering degree
Good oral, written and presentation communication skills
Experience working in a team environment
Record of fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment
Recent graduate or currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field with an overall GPA of 3.3 (out of 4.0) or higher from an accredited science or engineering undergraduate program
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic principles of nuclear decay and radiation spectroscopy
Interests in design of radiation detection systems or nuclear reactor design
Experience with computer science and basic programming
Experience working in a laboratory setting
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
