Los Alamos National Laboratory Technical Training Staff Supervisor (Manufacturing Support Manager 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The First Line Manager (FLM) is the primary point of contact for a team of Technical Trainers assigned to support various training activities for ALDWP Qualification and/or Certification programs. The FLM will provide direct management oversight of the technical trainers assigned to deliver various training courses in support of the TA-55, Plutonium Facility (PF-4). Reporting directly to the New Employee Training (NET) & Workforce Development (WMS-1) Group Leader within the Weapons Mission Services (WMS) Division, the chosen candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) vision is executed with precision and quality by providing day-to-day direction and leadership to team members and all affected ALDWP managers and staff.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring scope and schedule and establishing day-to-day protocol for planned training activities.

  • Planning, organizing, and defining tactical objectives for successful training outcomes.

  • Ensuring customer and team deliverables and commitments are met with a high level of quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Ensuring concise, consistent communications with line management reporting on training status, deliverables, and commitments.

  • Implementing efficient time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with changing priorities and conflicting demands.

  • Managing a diverse team of technical trainers providing training support for qualification and/or certification programs.

  • Directing and overseeing work performed by employees including "on the floor" supervision of training activities in various locations across the directorate.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership: Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising, mentoring, motivating employees, and developing personnel.

Knowledge and Expertise: Experience in developing and implementing training-related scope and coordinating activities. Experience with planning for and managing strategic and tactical execution of work; tracking and reporting progress. Experience in the areas of Conduct of Training and Qualification and/or Certification programs in nuclear and/or manufacturing/production facilities.

Accountability: Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining formality of operations in a nuclear facility (or comparably complex facility), specifically related to training activities. Proven ability to show good judgement when managing and overseeing the work of a team.

Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related science, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience performing work in a manufacturing and/or nuclear environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of engineering, and conduct of maintenance standards.

  • Experience managing and executing training in live and online environments.

  • Knowledge of DOE O 426.2 and application of training requirements in a nuclear environment.

  • Knowledgeable of document control processes and records management protocol.

  • DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification highly desirable.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
