Los Alamos National Laboratory Space Nuclear Sensing Group Leader (R&D Manager 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is recruiting a highly-motivated, dynamic leader, with experience in both management and space systems research and development (R&D), to lead the new Space Nuclear Sensing Group (ISR-8).

The newly created Space Nuclear Sensing Group is comprised of more than 40 staff members and postdoctoral fellows with core expertise in designing and operating radiation sensors that measure x-rays, gamma-rays, neutrons, and charged particles for applications including verification of international nuclear treaties, scientific missions in space physics and astrophysics, and nuclear nonproliferation. Core capabilities include advanced radiation detector R&D; radiation transport physics, modeling, and simulation; design, development, deployment, and operation of specialized space measurement systems; and analysis and interpretation of data from these systems.

The ISR-8 Group Leader will oversee the execution of technical work performed by the Group and will build, sustain, and champion its specialized capabilities and workforce. Because most projects span multiple Groups in ISR Division, the Group Leader must serve as a highly collaborative team member of ISR Division leadership team. The Group Leader will be responsible for specialized laboratories and computational infrastructure; for the safety and security envelope within which staff perform work; for professional development of staff through mentoring, coaching, and building effective teams; for ensuring high quality project deliverables on time and within budget; for understanding and managing technical, personnel, and organizational risk; for strategic planning to lead the Group into the future.
