Los Alamos National Laboratory Senior Software Developer (Software Developer 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Application and Data Services (ADS) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) enterprise applications and performs software application development support, database development and administration, data analytics and business intelligence, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Business Applications and Data Services Group (ADS-BADS) provides application development, commercial off-the-shelf application implementation, adoption/integration with Software as a Service solutions, data analytics/business intelligence, process automations, and application and infrastructure maintenance services specific to the institution's core business solutions (HR, finance, logistics, etc.).

Software Developer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

Working alongside some of the brightest minds, you will support the development and maintenance of new and existing custom applications in support of the laboratory's core business functions, such as HR, procurement, inventory, finance, logistics, payroll, and reporting and data analytics. The selected candidate will be part of the Logistics IT Support Team within the Business Applications and Data Services group (ADS-BADS). You will be involved in the support of our warehouse, property, and fleet management applications, as well as their integrations with other laboratory business systems and the reporting and data analytics associated with logistics operations. You will work with a team of developers to design, implement, and patch/upgrade COTS and custom solutions while simultaneously ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies. The successful candidate should have a strong desire to learn new technologies and business processes and should constantly strive to be an expert in their field. At this level, the selected candidate may have on-call responsibilities and is expected to provide after-hours support for production applications.

Software Developer 4 ($112,000 - $186,700)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will provide mentoring to junior staff members. We are looking for someone who self-initiates work, uses independent judgment for determining the course of action to accomplish objectives, and uses a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues. At this level, on-call responsibilities to provide support for production applications are expected.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of Supply Chain processes and modules across different ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), including detailed knowledge of warehouse inbound and outbound processes.

  • Experience configuring, administering, troubleshooting, and debugging a variety of IT systems (cloud and on-premise).

  • Experience with SQL and Oracle databases, including the ability to read and write SQL queries and PL/SQL procedures

  • Experience with application integration technologies like API's/Web Services, BOOMI, and similar.

  • Experience collaborating with warehouse staff, management, and IT stakeholders to provide technical input for warehouse design and process improvements.

  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, ABAP, and similar.

  • Experience developing and implementing business solutions and/or integration solutions from the ground up

Education/Experience at lower level : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Expert experience integrating with SAP S/4HANA - EWM

  • Experience with developing system integration plans, system implementation plans, and system upgrade plans.

  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

  • Proven Technical Lead with a track record of working independently on projects, coordinating technical activities, and effectively translating complex concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and enhance efficiency and services with minimal management oversight.

  • Demonstrate experience and willingness to provide technical mentorship to junior staff members.

Education/Experience at higher level : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA

  • Knowledge and experience developing complex views in Denodo.

  • Knowledge and experience developing reports and dossiers using MicroStrategy.

  • Familiarity with XML and JSON

  • Experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban framework.

  • Experience utilizing tools such as Jira, GitLab and/or Confluence.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
