What You Will Do

The Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (E-5) is a successful group of highly motivated engineers, technicians, and shipping specialists with world-class capabilities in high explosive (HE) experimental device design, assembly, shipping, and hazardous materials handling. E-5's mission is focused on supporting the Weapons Program experimental assembly portfolio for the Lab's Stockpile Stewardship mission as well as other HE experimental programs at LANL. E-5 is currently seeking a highly motivated Packaging Specialist 2to join E-5. The work activities include parts management, transportation of classified assets, high explosive and radiological material handling: ensuring safe and compliant packaging and/or transportation of classified materials and/or classified matter; providing technical assistance to customers regarding hazardous materials/classified matter packaging and transportation; fulfilling packaging and transportation requests; coordinating with customers/custodians to arrange hazardous transport/material scheduling; conducting inventories of high explosives, hazardous materials, and/or classified matter using tools such as the Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS), LANMAS/LAMCAS, etc.; management, coordination, quality control, storage, and disposition of materials; and serving as a high explosive (HE) handler. After a period of training and observation, the successful candidate will be expected to qualify for and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). The candidate must also complete training to become a qualified HE handler.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management with knowledge of accountability (MC&A), coordination, packaging, and/or transportation (HMPT) regulations, storage, and disposition. Working knowledge and training as a fully qualified authorized shipper of classified material with demonstrated experience in preparing shipping documents, packaging, marking, labeling, and transport of classified materials. LANMAS/LAMCAS and classified inventory tracking system knowledge.

Communication

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience supporting customers; skill with both excellent written and oral communication; and communicate utilizing tact, diplomacy, discretion, and attention to detail.

Special Systems Hands-on experience with Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, etc., LANL FootPrints, PDMLink, and Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS) databases.

Education/Experience Position requires an Associates Degree and 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Technical

An exceptional candidate will possess a High Explosives Handler Qualification; working knowledge of P101-8, Explosives Safety, and the controlling document, DOE Standard 1212.2019 (Formerly the DOE Explosives Safety Manual); experience in high-hazard operations (HE/rad).

NNSA Weapons Engineering

An exceptional candidate will have experience within the NNSA Weapons Complex and be able to demonstrate experience in handling classified parts and documents. Experience with handling or operations associated with energetic materials/components.

Certifications/Education

Current LANL Authorized Shipper in all hazard classes and divisions. Class B Commercial driver's License (CDL). Rad Worker II certification. Forklift license.

Work Environment: Standing for long periods of time

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
