Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Support Specialist 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will support the Logistics Heavy Equipment Roads and Grounds business lines. Support will include daily onsite support of the many facets and programs within the Heavy Equipment Roads and Ground portfolio.

By leveraging business expertise, operational support proficiency, and customer service skills, you will assist Heavy Equipment and Roads and Grounds staff in documenting, improving, and supporting systems, processes, and projects to contribute to an innovative and successful operation.

You will collaborate and team with internal and external customers to identify solutions to problems and support co-workers in resolving business problems in a fast-paced shop environment that provides critical support throughout the LANL institution.

the Operations Support Specialist 2 will assist senior Operations Support Specialists or provide guidance to junior Operations Support Specialists for tasks including (but not limited to):

  • Providing direct support of operations in programs related to vehicle/equipment maintenance, roads and grounds, and Craft.

  • Gathering data to develop, monitor and validate accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule for the Heavy Equipment shop and/or Roads and Grounds operation.

  • Providing system support, administration, documentation, and compliance to documentation of Logistics owned systems as well as basic support of other Laboratory systems to include equipment entry into the Laboratory CMMS (Asset Suite) for revenue collection purposes and fuel data entry and management in concert with Warehousing and Inventory peers.

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of required operational documentation for LOG-HERG, may include revision of procedures, specifications, and forms pertaining to operations; will be performed in compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities.

  • Recommending and assisting in implementation of business process improvements to ensure processes are followed to completion with efficiency, accuracy, and high quality, while maintaining priorities.

  • Assisting in the development and delivery of LOG-HERG operational training as requested.

  • Developing basic data queries and reports and tracking to enable management to make data driven decisions.

  • Teaming with all Support Specialists deployed to LOG-HERG to ensure no redundancy of tasks.

  • Fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment which includes providing exemplary customer service for internal and external customers, and a collaborative spirit with peer groups in other organizations.

  • Contributing to the organization's goals and objectives and resolving a wide range of issues in creative ways and provides feedback for strategic planning, as requested.

  • Assisting in annual LOG-HERG budget development in concert with budget analyst(s).

  • Providing support to assess risk and support the issues management process through corrective action implementation.

  • Providing communications internally and externally that are well-written, clear, concise and fielding or answering questions pertaining to those communications.

  • Interacting with internal and external senior personnel to identify, resolve, and implement solutions for the assigned operation or task.

  • Working under limited direction; receiving general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Entry-level knowledge of scope, processes, methodologies, or requirements associated with a heavy equipment or vehicle maintenance shop, roads and grounds operations, or operation involving a craft workforce.

  • Entry-level knowledge of process improvement, cradle to grave, for organizational change, procedure, policy, or process change. This includes entry-level knowledge of research, process documentation, roll-out communications, enforcement, and metrics or KPIs to track process improvement impacts.

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication and listening skills.

  • Ability to work closely with team-members and members of other organizations and customers to solve problems, define expectations, and uphold mutual responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated understanding of work hazards, work control, and safety practices policies and procedures related to a heavy equipment or vehicle maintenance shop, roads and grounds operations, or operation involving a craft workforce.

  • Working knowledge of the Laboratory's issues management process and performance measurement processes. Demonstrated entry-level experience reviewing and compiling data, assisting in the development of final management assessments and/or recommendations, and develop corrective actions, and tracking to closure.

  • Knowledge of integrated safety, formality of operations, compliance and quality assurance, confirmation management, work control, and physical and cyber security.

  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience with performance assurance metrics including pivot table and pivot chart capabilities in MS excel and presentation of these materials.

Education/Experience : Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicle maintenance operations and/or Roads and Grounds processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrated basic to intermediate experience and/or knowledge of Laboratory business, maintenance program systems (e.g. Asset Suite or AssetWorks), and standard LANL software applications (UTrain, Concur, Sunflower, Oracle modules, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability or working knowledge of website content development in support of the Logistics Division.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business-related field of study preferred.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: This position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
