Job Overview:

APTIM is seeking energetic and motivated interns to join our Nuclear Facility Decommissioning team. APTIM's internship program provides Graduate and Undergraduate students with the opportunity to apply skills gained in an academic setting to challenging projects and meaningful work assignments. Interns will be paired with experienced mentors and should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, finishing their internship having gained a broad experience in various aspects of Nuclear Facility Decommissioning.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Work activities include collection and interpretation of engineering and characterization data in support of work planning

  • Apply theory and engineering experience in the planning and design

  • Development of specifications, and performance of detailed engineering

  • Perform varied office engineering functions in preparing and supervising the preparation of reports, estimates, plans, and specifications

  • Assist with scheduling, conducting and documenting meetings

  • Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures

  • Interpret customer needs, assesses requirements, and identify solutions to requests

  • Use best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services

  • Conduct field/site visits for investigation or inspection with senior personnel

  • Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Structural, Radiological, or Environmental Engineering with an interest in safety and/or health physics

  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have experience with MS Office software

  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills

  • Willing to travel 90% of internship

  • May be subject to random drug and substance abuse screening

  • Must be a self-starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure

  • Must be available to work in various settings such as in office or remotely, depending on needs.

  • US Citizenship is required

Field Work (50% of time) - Collection and interpretation/evaluation of facility radiological, chemical, and engineering data. Perform walkdowns of work activities to support work planning. Participate in pre-job briefs and mock-up activities. Must be able to work in potentially adverse conditions, including cold and hot environments. Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds individually and possibly heavier items as part of a team. Must comply to HSE guidelines.

Office Work (50% of time) - Work in a cooperative small group setting with various employees at various levels, also operating under HSE guidelines. A typical office day could include processing and reviewing scientific or engineering data using a computer at a desk, preparing work documents or reports, and ordering supplies.
