Los Alamos National Laboratory Manufacturing Support Manager 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Weapons Mission Services Division (WMS-DO) is seeking a First Line Manager (FLM) to serve as the primary point of contact for all logistics, coordination and management oversight of a team within a business service, customer-centric environment. This individual would report directly to the Programmatic Mission Support Services Group Leader (WMS-3) within the WMS Division, which directly serves the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) operational groups and other applicable nuclear facility tenants.
The successful candidate for this job will be in direct contact with various levels of management to identify and discuss work scope and solicit funding in the area(s) of production agency product engineering, special process instructions, and/or mission-specific knowledge management duties for weapon-related organizations at LANL. This job will support the development, use, handling and storage of procedures, engineering authorizations and other documents related to design definition in support of pit manufacturing, surveillance, sub critical experiments and other plutonium manufacturing projects at LANL. Areas of scope will be complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently; work as part of a team; and contribute to improvements to meet customer requirements.

As a member of the WMS-3, Programmatic Mission Support Services management team, the First Line Manager is responsible for promoting safety, security, and quality in all operations, fostering teamwork within the group, and demonstrating effective leadership that promotes a positive, collaborative work environment. Main responsibilities will include:
Ensuring team deliverables and commitments are met with a high level of quality and customer satisfaction;
Ensuring impeccable communications with line management reporting on work status, deliverables, and commitments;
Providing effective mentoring, guidance and leadership to a diverse team of people with varying levels of operational experience;
Developing and implementing protocol and processes that effectively bring personnel up to speed within the ALDWP directorate;
Motivating employees to work as a team in accomplishing objectives, including mentoring and inspiring peers
Identifying process improvements and implementing solutions to promote a culture of continuous learning;
Implementing efficient time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with changing priorities and conflicting demands.
Implementing methods for effective metrics collection and data reporting;
Managing resource allocation, and being well-organized in developing/managing multiple complex, overlapping schedules.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Leadership: Experience managing multidisciplinary teams of technicians and/or professional staff in both operational and virtual environments. Advanced leadership skills in supervising, resolving conflicts, mentoring, team building, motivating employees, and developing personnel such as students and/or early career training staff. Proven ability to match skillsets of workers to the task at hand.
Knowledge and Expertise: Advanced experience in developing and implementing processes. Experience with planning for and managing strategic and tactical execution of work; tracking and reporting progress; includes issues management assignments, resolution, and implementation. Expertise in the areas of Conduct of Operations, configuration management, technical procedures and records management in nuclear and/or manufacturing/production facilities.
Accountability: Experience working with classified and/or sensitive information. History of dependable, reliable performance with a high level of integrity at all times. Proven ability to show good judgement when managing and overseeing the work of a team.
Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions and presentations; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
Customer Service: Advanced experience in interacting with a wide variety of personnel with the ability to make sound decisions in high-stress situations. Proven experience executing safety management programs in a fast-paced, moderate/high-hazard environment with the ability to shift and adjust priorities quickly and accurately, as needed.
Education and Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of LANL Quality Assurance (QA) Program requirements, with emphasis on NAP401.1A, Weapon Quality Policy.
Knowledge of Laboratory new hire orientation processes and institutional training services.
Experience performing work in a manufacturing and/or nuclear environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of engineering, and conduct of maintenance standards.
Knowledgeable of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and integrated safety and security management (ISSM) procedures.
Experience in management assessment and issues management resolution.
Knowledgeable of records management protocol.
Experience with applications such as SharePoint, manufacturing work control systems (e.g. MRP, MES), and Documentum.
Experience and knowledge of the application interface within the Enterprise Secure Network (ESN), to release and retrieve Product Definition documentation.
Experience with red network computing systems and software.
DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification highly desirable.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, ยง712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
