Los Alamos National Laboratory Maintenance Support Specialist 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.
The Maintenance Support Specialist (MSS) reports to the MSS-WC Work Control Team Leader (WC TL) to develop, monitor, and validate the accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information. Support the development and implementation of Standardized Preventative Maintenance plans and routines in line with company policy, procedures, engineering guidelines and maintenance strategy. Maintain databases and other programs as needed to develop performance measurements and other required data administration. Evaluate processes, programs, and procedures, for potential improvements. Develop and maintain maintenance policies, processes, procedures and provide training in support of the Conduct of Maintenance program to new team members. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the tracking and execution of PM packaging, IWD assignments and revisions, and the WMC record management retention procedure.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Interpret governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
Develop and monitor auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
Maintains database and other programs as required for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
Evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
Provide issues management support, reviews and compiles data, and assists in the development of final management assessments and/or recommendations.
Implement related documentation systems and ensures compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
Perform or assist in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.
Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to maintenance and quality assurance programs.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Communication: Skill to conceptualize and fully communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Business Processes & Systems: In-depth knowledge of and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. In-depth knowledge of and experience with document control and records management. In-depth knowledge of quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management. In-depth knowledge of Laboratory business and maintenance program systems.
Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated Knowledge and experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance; demonstrated ability to prepare and present reports and a clear understanding of work hazards, safety practices, policies and procedures.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Desired Qualifications:
Substantiated and direct experience performing work using any computerized LANL facility management tools that may include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.
Ability to use project management and/or spreadsheet software to track projects.
Experience organizing and providing comprehensive logistical support for conferences, workshop activities, and other events.
Previous Nuclear Preventive Maintenance Planning.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
