What You Will Do
Join the Human Resources - Institutional Talent Management Services (HR-ITS) training team in delivering training services to Los Alamos National Laboratory! In this role, you'll help ensure that LANL's workforce is well-prepared, compliant, and operating at the highest standards, contributing to the safe and effective accomplishment of the laboratory's critical missions. You'll also play a key role in evaluating the effectiveness of these programs to ensure they meet organizational needs.
You'll apply training principles, theories, and techniques to address a variety of challenges, with a focus on analyzing different factors. Moreover, in this role, you will support environmental, safety and health related trainings. While working under established guidance, you'll also contribute to group projects and help achieve broader organizational goals.
If you join as a Learning Specialist 1 , this position will involve receiving detailed instructions on new projects or assignments, with your work reviewed for accuracy and sound judgment. For those hired as a Learning Specialist 2 , there are additional responsibilities and educational requirements.
Learning Specialist 1 $57,800 -$89,500
Job Expectations for the Learning Specialist 1 include:
Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task.
Work with customers to assure training programs meet customer needs, regulatory drivers and contractual requirements.
Plans, communicates, and executes institutional training actions using LANL Learning Management System.
Manage and maintain regulatory compliant institutional training courses.
Provides exceptional consultative customer service to internal and external customers.
Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of compliant and high-quality training materials such as classroom and/or web-based training for diverse audiences.
May require hands on application of the work in varying and different operational environments.
Provides classroom instruction.
May assist with knowledge preservation, capture, and transfer projects in support of learning deliverables as required.
Provides training registration services.
Serves as a proctor for tests and quizzes.
Prepares and assembles training materials (workbooks, pamphlets, supplies, etc.).
Compiles and maintains training records.
Manages classrooms and training facilities.
Utilizes learning management system and records management system to track and report training and qualification status.
Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting training program policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to moderately complex issues.
Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
Learning Specialist 2 $69,500 - $110,300
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the ideal candidate will:
Provides professional guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.
Research training issues and recommends sound, practical solutions.
Use of the ADDIE systematic approach to training model.
May mentor, coach, and train other staff within the field.
Develops, implements and maintains compliant and high-quality course materials such as live classroom or web-based training for diverse audiences.
May participate in assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, data analysis, project management, or critiques.
May participate in special/emergent projects.
May require instructional systems design and oversight experience (graphics, web, etc.) and end user experience as an e-learning specialist.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated skill with professional interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.
Working knowledge of common computer-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Basic knowledge of learning theory and performance-based training techniques.
Basic knowledge of the general document control and record management processes.
Working knowledge of communication and presentation techniques in both written and spoken communications in the English language.
Additional Job Requirements for higher level title:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:
Proficient in the use of the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) for systematic training design and delivery.
Experience mentoring, coaching, and training staff within the field, fostering professional growth and development.
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain compliant, high-quality course materials for diverse audiences, including live classroom sessions and web-based training.
Experience in incident investigations, root cause analyses, data analysis, project management, and critiques.
Experience in instructional systems design and oversight
Training/Certifications: N/A
Education/Experience at lower level : The position requires an associate's degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level : The position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to training. Awareness of DOE orders and standards pertaining to training.
Working knowledge of the Laboratory's training data management systems and related information data systems.
Knowledge of process improvement concepts.
Demonstrated knowledge of content design process including visual design, photography, videography, online design Web and authoring software tools.
Basic knowledge of DOE training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities.
Oversight of staff in support roles.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within a 2-hour ground commute of this location. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
