The Controller Division is seeking to hire a highly motivated, energetic, and customer focused Accountant 3 to support the CNTL-Institutional Tax and Retirement Accounting (CNTL-ITR) Group. The selected candidate will report to the CNTL-ITR Team Leader. The Tax Team manages compliance across gross receipts tax, corporate income tax, and payroll tax. With over $4B of NM gross receipts and a workforce of 16,000 employees, the team ensures accurate tax reporting, deductions, and regulatory compliance. The tax team handles Forms W-2, IRS From 941, and multi state income tax and unemployment filings. Additionally, the tax team collaborates with the Corporate Accounting Group to compile tax data and file federal form 1065 and various state tax returns.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Accounting Experience:

Extensive knowledge and experience in financial analysis, accounting principles, and tax compliance.

Demonstrated experience and proven ability to develop, interpret, and apply financial policies, procedures and performing self-assessments

Regulations:

Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying GAAP, CAS, IRS regulations, ERISA, SAS, and internal auditing controls.

Experience with analytical review, government regulations and accounting standards application.

Technical Experience:

Extensive experience and knowledge working with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Financials).

Communication/Teamwork :

Demonstrated experience presenting complex financial information clearly.

Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and communication skills and ability to work effectively under deadlines and shifting priorities.

Customer Service

Demonstrated experience in interacting with stakeholders, management, and customers with a high level of professionalism.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related Accounting.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant certification highly desirable

  • Knowledge and experience preparing financial statements

  • Experience in preparing and filing IRS Form 1065

  • Knowledge of New Mexico gross receipts tax

  • Experience in filing payroll tax related forms such as W-2s and 941

  • MBA or advanced degree in a related field

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
