Description
PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist for a Surgical Tech Core Coordinator role at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington. Join the OR team in this full-time role serving as the Surgical Tech expert in instrument and supply allocation for all surgical procedures and the liaison between the OR teams, surgeons, sterile processing and perioperative services leadership.
Work four 10 - hour day shifts each week, plus rotational call

Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist Core Coordinator requires advanced knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies, their uses, and appropriate substitutions. This is a skilled liaison position requiring more knowledge, critical thinking, judgment, and communication skills to provide improved services to our surgeons and patients. Stocks and coordinates the flow of surgical case carts and/or supplies within the sterile core in support of all specialty procedures. The Surgical Technologist Core Coordinator facilitates the flow of surgical case supplies by; coordinating the flow of surgical case carts and/or supplies within the sterile core in support of all specialty procedures and providing appropriate instrumentation by proactively collaborating with the OR staff, vendors, and SPD staff, thus improving the relationship between Sterile Processing and the OR, increasing customer satisfaction and reducing patient delays or cancellations.
Position Details:
Manages the allocation of instruments and supplies in coordination with the surgery schedule by working independently to review individual preference cards, pick instruments and supplies for cases, scan all appropriate items utilizing SPM, and stage case carts for procedures.
Maintains the Sterile Core and works in partnership with department leaders to ensure consistent availability of supplies and instrumentation.
Participates as needed during surgical procedures
Maintains and updates OR/Hospital protocols related to the allocation of supplies and instruments and participates in the identification of preference card changes.
Responsible for researching and remaining current on best practices. Uses this knowledge to provide highly reliable, evidence-based support to the provision of care.
Participates in data collection and management as well as quality outcomes projects.
Participates as a member of the Surgery Workflow Optimization Team, attending meetings regularly.
Works collaboratively with Charge Nurses, Products Manager and SPD Manager to facilitate daily case readiness.
Works collaboratively with Products Manager and SPD Manager to facilitate ordering, inventory, charge posting, and SPM utilization.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist
Required: A minimum of 2 years experience as a surgical technologist in a full-service operating room
Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of an ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs
Preferred:
Orthopedic, general, GYN, ENT, Vascular and ophthalmology surgery experience within the past two years
Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Proficient in EPIC, Axiom, INFOR, & SPM (Preferred)
Working Conditions
Lifting
Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
