Responsibilities

As the Power, IPS and Analytical Engineering Group Leader in our Engineering Services Department, you will manage the electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering team, overseeing design and technical support on a variety of projects across the site. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project integration. Your expertise in electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering principles, combined with your leadership, management skills and extensive experience, will be crucial in leading the team to drive teamwork, innovations and successful project execution.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following) :

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical, instrumentation and controls engineers, technologists and technicians, providing technical guidance, mentoring, collaboration, support and performance feedback.

  • Oversee the planning, design, and execution of engineering scope of work by the team across all phases of a variety of projects and technical studies, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with members to establish goals, training, and development opportunities for direct reports in a manner that aligns with site/company vision. Mentor and develop emerging talent. Coach for outcomes and recognize/reinforce high performance. Lead the annual performance management process for the team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including engineering disciplines, project managers, engineering managers, project controls, operations, maintenance, and procurement, to identify needs and ensure successful project delivery.

  • Monitor team workload, develop monthly team resource forecast and identify need for staffing adjustments.

  • Provide guidance to team members on designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project, standard and code requirements.

  • Monitor team member performance on KPIs, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary to meet project requirements.

  • Support the team in providing technical support and guidance to operations, maintenance, and project teams addressing E&I engineering-related issues or challenges.

  • Lead team development and implementation of E&I standards and architectures .

  • Stay updated with advancements and trends in E&I engineering and technologies, and identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement in the organization.

  • Serve as a member of the Engineering Services department leadership team. Report on group and department KPIs, assist in the development and application of department policies and procedures, and cascade communications from leadership.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional development among the engineering team.

  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to evaluate new E&I applications and ensure the best value for Eastman.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and promote a safe working environment. Maintain emphasis and focus on personal and process safety.

  • Perform special projects as identified or as assigned.

  • Communicate up and down the chain of command using strong interpersonal skills and understanding of the right level of content/detail for various audiences.

  • Create and maintain annual on-call schedule for the group. Participate in the division on-call rotation.

  • Other management duties as business needs dictate

Qualifications

Minimum • B. S. degree in Electrical or Instrument/Control Engineering or a related field. • Strong knowledge of electrical or instrumentation and control engineering principles, practices, codes, and regulations. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose innovative and practical engineering solutions. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. • Competency in electrical engineering concepts and theory. General understanding of the application of process instrumentation, process analyzers, and process control. • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred • Prior direct supervisory experience. • Minimum of 5 years of experience electrical or instrumentation and control engineering preferred. • Proven experience in electrical or instrumentation and control engineering, design, implementation, and support in a manufacturing environment. • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as ISO, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA 70, NEC, PIP and other applicable codes, in the design and evaluation of electrical, instrumentation and control systems and equipment. • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
