Sierra Nevada Corporation Sr. Aerospace Test Engineer in Lone Tree, Colorado

As a Test Engineer at SNC, you will be using your skills and expertise to simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services in addition to testing and evaluating a wide range of systems installed on aerial and non-aerial vehicles. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll develop complex test plans and execute test procedures for a variety of systems with an emphasis on hardware evaluation to ensure the verification and validation of all product requirements. You will also be involved with the execution of the tests using top industry tools. As a cross functional engineer, you'll test system and component level new products and develop new test processes throughout the product lifecycle.

This position is situated within a dynamic team-focused environment, emphasizing the planning and execution of comprehensive testing for both mission systems and air vehicles with little to no software testing needs. Our approach evolves with the design maturity, extending from initial stages through to post-production follow-ups on subsequent articles. The role involves extensive system testing, aimed at assessing a broad spectrum of mission equipment such as communication, computing, navigation, and surveillance systems, to ensure they meet design and functionality standards. Additionally, air vehicle testing tasks will include the assessment of aircraft systems disturbed during air vehicle modification and return-to-service efforts, and a thorough evaluation of various flight and control capabilities across prototype air vehicles.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in internal and external meetings and briefs

  • Generate presentation material and conduct presentations for internal and external program briefs

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and program stakeholders to develop test strategy for new programs

  • Draft and develop test plans and test procedures of various complexities, with specific test criteria

  • Execute local and off-site testing in accordance with approved test plans and test procedures to evaluate or demonstrate functionality of components, sub-systems, mission systems and aircraft systems

  • Troubleshoot test anomalies discovered during test

  • Draft and develop test reports summarizing all test findings following conclusion of test

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of experience

  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Advanced Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and systems integration

  • Demonstrated experience planning, conducting and documenting Verification and Validation (V&V) activities

  • Test and evaluation experience

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance (if non-cleared)

Preferred:

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Experience performing certification testing for various certification organizations (i.e. FAA Part 23, MIL-HDBK-516, NASA, DoD, etc.)

  • Experience with various testing equipment, standards, and manual testing methodologies.

  • Ability to prepare complex and professional test plans, test procedures, and test reports in order to demonstrate compliance to system requirements

  • Familiarity with Product and Quality Assurance principles and experienced in generation and disposition of product non-conformances

  • Experience performing certification testing for various certification organizations (i.e. FAA, NASA, DoD)

  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, use service manuals, follow test procedures, and use logical trouble shooting techniques

  • Technical writing skills

  • Skills operating common laboratory bench-top equipment (digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, RF power meters, etc)

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $120,552.10 - $165,759.14. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.

SNC offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
