OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION
As part of MUFG’s Blended & Climate Finance team, this role will be primarily responsible for private debt blended finance transactions and funds, including origination, due diligence, structuring and fundraising.
This critical role requires the balancing between high-level, strategic work, partnership development, fundraising, and day-to-day program management and implementation. Experience within sustainable finance, investment funds and emerging markets debt is required.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The role contributes to achieving MUFG’s strategic objectives within Blended and Climate Finance of increasing private capital mobilization for SDG-aligned use of proceeds; using a variety of financial instruments including equity, guarantees, technical assistance and programmatic financing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Climate Focused Private Debt Fund:
Responsible for originating and coordinating a pipeline of eligible transactions including marketing and origination together with the eligible Countries (LAC, Africa and Asia).
Lead on Country Engagement and government relationship – at sovereign and sub-sovereign level
Write and coordinate with the Investment Manager the concept notes and presentation materials connected with potential transactions.
Coordination with key external stakeholders including foreign governments, development finance institutions (DFIs), investment banks, multilateral organizations, and NGOs
Lead the negotiation of legal documentation with external stakeholders, including transaction and Fund related documentation
Assist with Fundraising, including preparation of presentation materials; desktop analysis of potential investors;
Stakeholder analysis and mapping, identifying key entities complementary to the initiative’s targets. Assist in the design and execution of stakeholder engagement events in the target Countries with the identified stakeholders
Coordination and oversight of internal processes management including KYC/AML screening; coordination with Legal, Compliance and Operations
Provide analysis on key aspects of assigned proposals and their alignment with the Fund’s strategic objectives as well as assess the risks
Performance monitoring of existing investments, including review of monthly financial statements
Strategy & New Initiatives
Structuring and implementation of new blended finance products
Lead origination, marketing and structuring of Blended Finance transactions in selected jurisdictions
Support senior team members in the development of materials regarding MUFG’s Blended Finance franchise
Representation of MUFG’s participation in relevant coalitions, taskforces and/or alliances.
Provide input for reports, tools, case studies, etc. for blended finance internal and external materials
Support to internal teams in connection with climate risks and disclosure, where relevant
Blended Finance Transactions:
Development of Country and Sectoral strategies for Blended Finance in collaboration with regional offices. Proactive origination and innovative solutions to potential transactions and clients.
Lead on transaction origination within existing or untapped markets. Gather and disseminate market intelligence, generating leads and developing proposals/initiatives to create a consistent flow of opportunities to the Bank and efficient financing solutions to our client base.
Lead and coordinate joint effort with Relationship Managers to originate opportunities with existing client base. Partner with other teams on new business development opportunities related to blended finance.
Develop and maintain close relationship with public and philhantropic capital providers to develop a sourcing pool of blended capital instruments for originated transactions.
Leading on client materials, legal documentation, KYC/AML, credit memos and monitoring of performance
WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Significant experience of working in Corporate Banking, Development Finance, Asset Management (Debt) or at private debt/equity fund/institution within Emerging Markets (Latin America and Caribbean, Africa and/or Asia)
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Functional / Technical Competencies:
Essential
Experience within SDG-aligned finance, private or public.
Knowledge and experience in different financial instruments in Banking & Blended finance – including commercial and legal aspects;
Experience with public sector borrowers (sovereign and subs-sovereign entities) including commercial, credit and legal negotiations;
Knowledge and experience of corporate and sovereign credit risk analysis
Ability to work independently and travel within selected target markets;
Knowledge of the operational framework and fiduciary standards of international public sector institutions; experience within or dealing with multilaterals banks; development finance institutions; philanthropies are highly beneficial.
Ability to translate data into information; including preparing presentations, memorandums and other materials autonomously;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required for this position; Additionally, French and/or Spanish skills are also required for this position. Having both is highly beneficial.
