OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

Aviation Asset Management (AAM) team (Global Aviation Finance Office (GAFO)), is part of the Corporate and Investment Banking Division for EMEA (GCIB). GAFO is managed by a Global Head and was a newly introduced organisation connecting aviation finance teams in EMEA, Asia and US to properly run the aviation finance business seamlessly and consistently on a global basis.

GAFO has senior level support and access, and is MUFG’s first sector vertical team with oversight of all aspects of the aviation business within the Bank.

As an expanding business, GAFO is still developing some aspects and the successful applicant will have the chance to grow with the role helping shape AAM within GAFO.

The AAM Team is located in London UK however, it is important to note that GAFO is a Global Business and as such the Team provides support to EMEA, APAC and US regions and will attend global client discussions in order to support the GAFO Business.

As a minimum, the role requires a physical attendance in the London office no less than 3 days per working week.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed team, working with the GAFO platform with clients, AAM suppliers and internal stake holders.

The main purpose of the role is:

  • To operate as a member of the Aviation Asset Management team delivering a variety of world class subject matter expert knowledge and services to the GAFO platform over the lifecycle of the facility term and lifecycle of the Aircraft and Engines.

  • To differentiate MUFG from our competitors through our asset management knowledge and expertise

  • To evaluate and where possible, use asset management subject matter expertise to refine / shape deals to assist MUFG in growing the business

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As an experienced professional, the main purpose of the role is to:

  • Act as a back-up for the Head of Aviation Asset Management

  • Provide technical expert input to global GAFO stakeholders across the lifecycle of the facility and lifecycles of the aviation transaction from origination through the final maturity.

  • Provide pro-active participation in regional deal teams, by providing independent technical and commercial asset management expertise in the analysis of customer specific / deal specific requirements

  • Competently and capably assimilate large amounts of technical data, draw conclusions and provide initial guidance to the GAFO platform for new opportunities for weekly business screening meetings

  • Act as a focal point with our chosen service providers providing independent and balanced views to the business over the lifecycle of the facility and lifecycles of the aviation transaction from origination through the final maturity.

  • In conjunction with the AAM team members and chosen service provider, complete and or manage the completion of forward models for Aircraft and Engine existing deals and or potential future deals in order to provide a technical / commercial of the technical status of the aircraft over time

  • Represent Aviation Asset Management at both internal and external meetings / conferences creating and delivering presentations as required

  • In conjunction with GAFO stakeholders, create and maintain a close relationship with our customers on all levels to ensure we fully understand the customers’ requirements and what they may offer to MUFG from a servicing perspective

  • In conjunction with the Head of Aviation Asset Management maintain a close relationship with customers, manufacturers, service providers and suppliers

  • In conjunction with the Head of Aviation Asset Management create AAM Process and Procedures bringing Aviation Asset Management knowledge and know how into the Bank and wider GAFO Team

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Minimum of 7 years Technical and or Commercial engineering experience and strong technical aviation background including working experience with an Airline, or Aircraft Lessor or Aircraft / Engine Manufacturer or maintenance / repair organization

  • A wide and varied aviation experience base that can be drawn upon to deliver this role and a wide network of contacts within the industry in order to fully support the business and to act as a back-up to the Head of Aviation Asset Management

  • An ability to make a positive contribution to the integration of technical aviation subject matter expert knowledge into the bank.

  • Demonstrated ability to work positively and constructively across various teams including areas outside of normal scope and outside of normal areas of expertise

  • Detailed knowledge of the Airbus and or Boeing product lines

  • Detailed understanding of Aircraft Lease Agreements including for example, maintenance reserves / end of lease adjustment / lessor contribution concepts

  • Detailed understanding of Aircraft Records, Aircraft maintenance documentation, maintenance checks and aircraft / landing gear / engine maintenance philosophies

  • Detailed understanding of the lifecycle of an aircraft including delivery, transitions and final disposition including selling and part-out options

  • Detailed working knowledge of Aircraft Fly Forward modelling regarding maintenance event planning and timing

  • Awareness of Aircraft interiors and reconfigurations

  • Awareness of aviation regulatory requirements and considerations

  • Demonstrates ability to work with data, analyses data, run models and identify trends

  • Demonstrates experience of creating and modifying processes and procedures

  • Demonstrates planning capabilities and business awareness across an aviation platform

  • Demonstrates adaptability and ability to work outside of the normal team and with the ability to influence others

  • Demonstrates experience of dealing and working inclusively with different cultures

Preferred:

  • Demonstrates experience of working within a large aviation manufacturing, leasing, airline and or banking organisation

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies

Essential:

  • Strong numerical, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels (including boardroom environment) and with those from different backgrounds

  • A strong technical aviation background including working experience at an airline, or Aircraft Lessor or Aircraft Manufacturer or maintenance / repair organisation.

  • Significant experience in working with, reviewing and interpreting Aircraft manufacturer documentation

  • Experience with working with, reviewing and interpreting Aircraft Lease Agreements including for example return conditions, maintenance reserves and end of lease adjustments

  • Experience of working with manufacturers service providers and airlines

  • Ability to analyse technical data and convert the same into a current commercial understanding of the maintenance condition adjusted status of the Aircraft and predicted future condition via fly forward methodology.

  • Demonstrates planning experience and ability to deliver projects efficiently, in a timely manner

  • Ability to distil large amounts of information from various inputs into single, concise proposals

  • Good IT skills – particularly Excel and PowerPoint

  • Detail conscious, ensuring reliability at all times, and committed to producing high quality and professional work, in a team environment

  • Adaptable and able to act independently or within a team as required

  • Demonstrates ability to be pro-active, multi-task and manage ever-changing and often conflicting priorities

  • Ability to deal with people of all types, and personalities at all levels across multiple time zones

  • Experience in working with both internal and external stakeholders, clients, suppliers and manufacturers.

Education / Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree Level and / or equivalent relevant experience
