Syndicate 1183 underwrites a number of classes of business including war and terrorism, energy, marine, financial lines, cyber, transport, political risk, crisis management, kidnap and ransom, contingency and property. Syndicate 2019 reinsures a portfolio of U.S. ultra-high net worth personal lines business. Through its expert team of underwriters and a balanced, geographically-diverse portfolio of business, Talbot has earned a reputation as an industry-leading insurance specialist.

How you will create an impact

This is a unique opportunity to work in the Talbot Syndicate Finance team covering both the group and Lloyd’s reporting for the syndicates.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure complete, accurate and timely syndicate reporting.

  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly submissions to AIG.

  • Preparation, with the assistance of the Assistant Syndicate Accountant, of Lloyd’s returns – first level review of Lloyds regulatory reporting, annual report & accounts, ad hoc reporting

  • Support Lloyd’s regulatory reporting, including QMA, QMB, Pillar 3, GQD, TPD, international, tax and SITUS reporting, as required.

  • Maintain and ensure efficient and effective accounting processes.

  • Ensure financial and SOX controls are performed, evidenced and updated in line with process changes.

  • Ensure documentation maintained for key processes.

  • Ledger maintenance including quarterly preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Responsible for the processing of automated and non-automated GAAP journals.

  • Review of ledger reconciliations and schedules.

  • Process improvement - assist in the on-going development of syndicate quarterly reporting processes for both US and UK reporting, Solvency II and regulatory reporting.

  • Assist in the coaching and development of the Assistant Syndicate Accountant.

    What you’ll need to succeed

  • 3 plus years syndicate accounting experience

  • Lloyd’s market experience with a good knowledge of Lloyd’s accounting and processes

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Good knowledge of UK GAAP – US GAAP desirable

  • Strong communication skills

  • Numerate and good analytical skills

  • Team focused, personable and willing to get involved in new areas

  • Ability to coach and develop more junior members of the team.
