Amazon Software Development Engineer, Traffic Quality in London, United Kingdom

Description

Advertising at Amazon is a fast-growing multi-billion dollar business that spans across desktop, mobile and connected devices; encompasses ads on Amazon and a vast network of hundreds of thousands of third party publishers; and extends worldwide. One of the key focus areas in Advertising is Traffic Quality, where we build technology to identify and weed out invalid traffic ensuring that Advertiser spend worldwide is directed towards human audiences and protected from ad fraud. We do this by by building security engineering, machine learning and optimization algorithms that operate at scale, and leverage nuanced features about user, context, and creative engagement to determine the validity of traffic. The challenge is to stay one step ahead by investing in deep analytics and developing new algorithms that address emergent attack vectors in a structured and scalable fashion across the diverse advertising landscape of Amazon Stores, Amazon Owned & Operated, and Third Party publishers.

Traffic Quality systems process billions of ad-impressions and clicks per day by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and AWS services.

Key job responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, deployment and monitoring of highly scalable services for large scale processing of ad traffic

  • Implement security engineering, network forensics and machine learning based techniques for invalid traffic detection, leveraging AWS services such as ECS, ElastiCache, S3, DynamoDB, EMR, SageMaker, and RedShift

  • Deliver high quality code and participate actively in peer code reviews

  • Lead and be hands-on in investigating design approaches, prototyping technology, and evaluating technical feasibility

  • Focus on operational excellence, constructively identifying problems and proposing solutions that improve team’s software

  • Communicate effectively with local and remote teams, both verbally and in writing.

A day in the life

You will work closely with Security Engineers, Data Scientists, Senior Engineers and Product Managers to understand the digital advertising landscape, compile requirements, and address them by using the right technologies, design principles and best practices. You will experience building and operating big data, high scale systems, and exposure to deeply technical and sophisticated techniques to protect Advertisers from bots and fraud.

About the team

The Traffic Quality team builds and operates invalid traffic detection systems that form the bedrock of Advertiser trust in Amazon Ads. We are a diverse team that is constantly looking to learn, innovate, experiment, and have fun while obsessing over protecting our customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience (non-internship) in professional software development

  • Experience in professional, non-internship software development

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
