Senior news reporter

The Sunday Times is looking for a senior news reporter who is a proven story-getter with the experience to land exclusives and the imagination to break fresh ground.

The successful applicant will be a reporter with a track record of breaking stories across a broad range of areas.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines

  • Cover major news stories across a broad range of areas

  • Conceive and deliver large scale digital news projects

  • Break agenda-setting exclusive stories and pitch regularly to the news desk

  • Pitch ambitious, innovative investigations

  • Maintain excellent contacts in current affairs

  • Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote Sunday Times content

  • Work collaboratively with other sections across the paper, particularly digital and graphics, to ensure the best presentation of stories on our digital platforms

Skills and experience

  • Experience reporting for a national newspaper, magazine or news website

  • Demonstrable expertise in current affairs

  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking

  • Good understanding of audience data and SEO techniques to maximise search results

  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Sunday Times

  • Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines

  • Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively

  • Unflappable and reliable under pressure

  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
