Why this job matters

The Senior Wellbeing Specialist is a pivotal role in advancing BT Group’s IED&W agenda. Reporting to the Chief Inclusion, Equity, Diversity & Wellbeing Officer (CIEDWO), you will be aligned with and have primary responsibility for developing and advancing the wellbeing strategy and initiatives for all of our global workforce, which includes desk-based colleagues, frontline and retail workers, field employees, and global workers distributed across various Customer Facing Units (CFUs).

Working with the CIEDWO, alongside senior leaders and other key stakeholders across your portfolio, you will play a key role in co-creating the wellbeing strategy, strategic plan of action, and risk management. As an experienced practitioner, you will offer specialist support on cases as needed.

What you’ll be doing

In your first 30 days, you will:

  • Work closely with the CIEDWO to understand the key strategic people objectives, the connection to the BT Group strategy, and how this manifests through our work-worker-workplace strategy and wellbeing program.

  • Spend time getting to know your work portfolio, meeting with and holding listening sessions with key stakeholders, including senior business leaders, Health, Safety and HR leaders & business partners, Wellbeing networks, and employees. You will understand their perspectives, expectations, organisational context, and culture, and identify any barriers to wellbeing.

  • Conduct a comprehensive current state analysis of wellbeing initiatives across BT Group, identifying risks, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to scale existing initiatives. Leverage data insights to conduct your analysis and assess our current approach in the context of relevant evidence-based practices, psychosocial hazard frameworks, and relevant legislation.

  • Get to know your line manager and team, establish ways of working, and contribute to the team culture.

In your first 60 days, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the CIEDWO to refine the wellbeing strategy for BT Group.

  • Develop a detailed plan informed by a psychosocial hazard framework and a timeline for implementing risk-assessed key initiatives.

  • Shape the roadmap for creating and launching specific wellbeing programs, including communication, risk mitigation, and engagement strategies required to deploy these programs. Work closely with the Senior Programme Manager to translate the strategic roadmap into a high-level action plan, brought to life through our agile ways of working.

In your first 90 days, you will:

  • Work closely with the Senior Programme Manager, team members, and other colleagues to manage and monitor the wellbeing programs, initiatives, and outcomes for BT Group.

  • Engage closely with your stakeholders to monitor participation, assess risks, and gather feedback on the initiatives.

On an ongoing basis, you will:

  • Grow in your capacity to provide expertise, strategic guidance, and support for leaders and teams across BT Group.

  • Continuously execute the wellbeing strategy, monitoring progress, assessing risks, and adjusting as needed to achieve BT’s long-term objectives.

  • Regularly use data-driven insights, customer centricity, and risk assessment to inform decision-making and measure the effectiveness and impact of the wellbeing initiatives.

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key business stakeholders, including employees, Health, Safety & HR Business Partners, HR CoEs, external partners, etc.

  • Continuously develop your knowledge and capability by staying up to date on emerging wellbeing evidence, trends, and best practices, including maintaining professional psychologist registration.

  • Adopt an agile mindset and leverage design thinking principles and techniques to understand business needs, motivations, and expectations to design person-centered solutions.

  • Work in collaboration with the CIEDWO and the team using agile ways of working. Contribute to a team culture focused on high performance and impact, fostering inclusion and wellbeing to learn from each other, improve ways of working, and drive continuous improvement.
