Why this job matters

As the Senior Manager of Openreach’s Internal Audit team, you will provide independent and objective assurance and advice to the Openreach Board Audit Risk and Compliance Committee (OBARCC) and the Openreach Board. Your role will be pivotal in identifying insights and opportunities for value addition, managing the Commitments Monitoring Office, and ensuring compliance with regulatory commitments. This position is crucial in maintaining Openreach’s reputation as a fair and trustworthy organisation, while driving substantial business improvements through a deep understanding of the business and strategic advice.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide independent and objective assurance and advice to the Openreach Board Audit Risk and Commitments Compliance Committee (OBARCC) and the Openreach Board.

  • Develop and deliver both the strategy and the annual programme for the Openreach Audit team, influencing and advising on the strategy for risk, control, and assurance across the business.

  • Network with and communicate to the Openreach Board, OBARCC, Executive Team, and Senior Management Team stakeholders to influence risk and assurance strategies, audit programmes, findings, and recommendations.

  • Maintain the highest professional standards, adopting best practices and continuous improvements while coordinating with BT Group Internal Audit.

  • Provide insights and add value through an understanding of the Openreach business and its risks.

  • Focus on assurance over ‘the Commitments’ and associated reporting responsibility to Ofcom and the industry.

Skills required for the Job

  • Expert in audit, risk management, and assurance.

  • Excellent written and presentation skills for clear communication of reports and findings.

  • Strong relationship management skills to influence at Board and senior executive levels.

  • Ability to rapidly learn and understand all aspects of Openreach’s business operations.

  • Programme management skills to develop, agree, and execute annual audit programmes.

  • Knowledgeable in regulatory compliance programme design and application.

  • Team management skills to effectively lead the audit team.

Experience you would be expected to have

  • Fully professionally qualified (MIIA or Accountancy).

  • Highly credible expert in internal audit with proven experience.

  • Extensive experience dealing with sensitive matters at the Chairman, CEO, and Executive levels.

  • Extensive experience supporting and reporting to Board/risk & audit committee levels.

  • Experience running an internal audit team and auditing at the Board level in a complex organisation.

Key decisions

  • Selection and prioritisation of audits for the annual programme.

  • Formulation of opinions, findings, and recommendations for each audit.
