Join our dynamic team on the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Desk in Shell Energy Trading, a leader in the renewable energy sector, driving innovation and sustainability across Europe. As a Renewable Gas Originator, you'll be at the forefront of our efforts to shape the future of energy, navigating challenging regulatory landscapes and fostering key relationships in the rapidly evolving renewable gas market.

What’s the role?

In this role you will play a pivotal role in identifying and capitalizing on opportunities within the European biomethane market. Working alongside a team of motivated professionals, you'll be responsible for developing strategic partnerships, structuring deals, and driving the growth of our renewable gas portfolio.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Collaborating with Sales teams across Europe to develop and market renewable gas to a customer base including large industrial and commercial accounts.

  • Working with Traders to commercially structure and negotiate terms and transactions and create strategies for the monetisation, optimisation and risk management of the exposures generated from these.

  • Managing the full lifecycle of deals, from due diligence to execution, and ensure post-contract requirements are met.

  • Liaise with Regulatory and Operations teams to ensure that deals can be managed, risk mitigated and operationalised within an evolving regulatory landscape.

  • Collaborating with the wider Shell organisation, including Low Carbon Fuels and Downstream/Manufacturing, to identify opportunities to extract value from Shell’s portfolio and capabilities.

What we need from you

Required:

  • A proven track record in Origination or Business Development roles

  • Strong existing relationships with key decision makers for both supply and demand counterparts within the renewable gas market.

  • In-depth knowledge of Renewable Energy Directive II and relevant regulations at the member state level.

  • Familiarity with European road transport schemes and carbon tax/emissions-related schemes e.g. EU-ETS, BEHG/DEHSt, Dutch Levy etc.)

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills

  • An ability to clearly and efficiently engage with internal and external counterparts to progress and close simple and complex deals, meet challenging timelines and targets, grow the portfolio and business footprint, drive top-line margin growth and realise strong returns on resource.

  • An ability to understand and idea-generate strategies to monetise and risk manage exposures arising from negotiated terms (both for linear and structured transactions).

  • A willingness and desire to be agile, adaptive and resourceful in light of a fast-paced, constantly changing environment that rapidly presents new, often highly impactful, opportunities and risks.

  • An inquisitive mindset to take full advantage of the rich development opportunities that this role and market area offers.

Fluency in the English language

Desirable:

  • Business fluency in additional European language skills, in particular German, Dutch and French.

  • Experience structuring and originating options-based transactions.

  • Quantitative skills and an ability to model and stress test transactions.
