Plaistow Site produces Lyles Golden Syrup & other Flavoured Syrups and has 5 syrup packing lines along with 9 dry packing lines.

POSITION SCOPE

Reporting to senior packaging manager, the successful candidate will undertake a Packaging Engineer graduate training program.

POSITION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY DELIVERABLES

The initial purpose of the Packing Graduate position is to learn and obtain a broad experience of the refining process and our business generally. The Packing Graduate position will then be required to contribute a high level of energy to the execution and continuous improvement of the packing process, based on their learning and experiences. Success in this role is based upon the ability to demonstrate clear value to the business by executing against key objectives.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work on optimization of projects to provide continuous improvements in safety, hygiene, quality and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) performance focusing on the key packaging lines at both our Thames & Plaistow sites.

  • Evaluate new product development (NPD) and packing equipment investment opportunities.

  • To participate in equipment/line upgrades and installations ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the required specification.

  • Develop projects to reduce packing over-weights, packing material wastage and re-melt.

  • To work alongside the engineering team to ensure correct and relevant engineering documentation is available.

  • To use knowledge and experience to avoid, anticipate and deal with engineering problems.

  • To assist the maintenance team ensuring that maintenance activities are carried out efficiently.

  • Familiar with Root cause analysis techniques.

  • To maintain high quality and safety standards at all times.

  • Ability to look for new technologies which can be brought into the Packaging operations.

  • Gain experience in refining sugar and understanding the granulation and routing of sugar to the packing lines.

  • Improve line uptime in area of responsibility with clear directions to the operational teams on expectations and standards.

  • Learning CI techniques and working towards gaining a yellow & green belt certification using Lean six sigma techniques.

  • Learn manufacturing execution systems (Redzone).

  • Understand SPC process for controlling weight control within packing lines.

  • Deliver agreed projects on time, within scope and on budget.

  • Demonstration of compliance with all SHEQ standards always.

  • Successful implementation of systems to improve efficiency within packing line.

  • ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Experience of working in a Manufacturing or Production environment preferable.

  • Clear understanding of SHHEQ issues.

  • Demonstrate a Continuous improvement project whilst working within a placement.

    ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Educated to degree standard with relevant degree pass in Mechanical, Engineering or other relevant discipline.
