Purpose of Job
As an Executive Director of Market Risk, this role is primarily responsible for assisting in the oversight of the market risk of the London businesses. This role is key in developing, implementing and maintaining financial models to ensure that all material market risks are correctly measured, aggregated, reported and analyzed.
Market Risk is managed on a Global basis, divided broadly by asset class, and hence it is expected that the incumbent will also assist in the oversight of the market risk of one or more asset classes, as required.
The incumbent will participate in complex group-wide projects by contributing creative thinking with an advanced analytical approach. This position requires deep understanding of financial markets, project management, IT systems and pricing of complex interest rate, FX and equity (being the major London risk) derivatives. This role works directly with various stakeholders across Capital Markets, namely - trading, operations, financial control, audit, technology, and other departments within CMRM including quantitative risk management.
Main Objectives
To assess and report on the ongoing market risk profile of the London businesses whilst maintaining a continuous awareness of issues affecting these markets.
To perform day-to-day trading positions analysis and perform deep dive explanations of risk drivers.
To answer complex questions quickly, with answers tailored to a varied audience, including senior management.
To continually improve systems and processes for the measurement and monitoring of market risks.
To partner with business and infrastructure groups for complex and ad hoc portfolio risk inquiries.
To lead in the evolution of limit design and monitoring processes, working in ad hoc teams with other professionals within CMRM and the various business lines
To stay current on changing market risk methodologies through participation in business/industry associations and through a developed professional network.
To provide strategic and creative thinking with sharp communication skills
To build relationships across various groups to drive project delivery
To ensure that trading activities of the London business is within the risk appetite of the Bank, at both Regional and Global levels.
Assist in the monitoring and reporting of regional Liquidity Risk as needed
Cross-Functional Relationships
Traders/Trading Management in Toronto, London and globally
Risk Management personnel in all locations including market, credit, enterprise and operational risk
Finance, Audit and related control functions
Technology, business management and infrastructure personnel
Treasury and FLM team in the region
Authorities/Decision Rights
The Executive Director, under the direct guidance of the VP CMRM, Europe & APAC, operates with limited independence to develop, monitor and report on market risk data management reporting and analytical issues within business for which he/she is responsible.
As a key contributor to Capital Markets Risk Management, the incumbent has the authority to recommend changes to business market risk measurement, monitoring or other control processes, including but not limited to reporting and technology infrastructure, in order to enhance compliance with market risk regulations, policies, and guidelines
Skills / Knowledge Required
Extensive practical trading and/or risk management experience for fixed income, equities, and FX derivatives, and the issues surrounding their pricing and risk management.
Experience with CVA, FVA and other Valuations Adjustments would be considered a key asset.
Understanding of liquidity and funding metrics needed for regulatory reporting as well as prudent risk management
Ability to perform big-data analysis using Python / R would be preferred.
Familiarity with methodologies for quantifying and analysing market risks, and of relevant systems/programming issues related to market risk system deployment.
You have strong programming and database skills (e.g. Python, VBA, C#, SQL, Access, Bloomberg API, R)
Understanding of key finance/investment management concepts as well as strong skills in analytical research, problem-solving and pricing/statistical modelling.
A graduate degree in finance, economics, operations research, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline. A CFA/FRM/PRM designation is an asset, as is some knowledge of accounting principles.
Ability to effectively communicate technical, analytical or conceptual information with traders, management, peers and developers.
Ability to lead multiple projects of varying complexity
Excellent social, negotiation and mediation skills.
