What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers Europe is looking for a Qualified Lawyer with experience within Employment Law to join our Legal team based in our London office.

Under limited supervision, this position provides a broad range of cost-effective, high quality legal services in the area of employment law, to stakeholders within Travelers. The successful candidate will handle complex employment law matters to support Human Resources, management and business initiatives. This position does not lead others.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner referral bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders regarding all aspects of employment law including performance management, employment policies and practices, leave of absence, adjustments, disciplinaries and grievances, terminations, training, restrictive covenants, employment litigation, and other employment related matters.

  • Provide legal advice and counsel regarding employment legal disputes, employee benefits and compensation, taking into the account the regulatory regime applicable to the entity or individual in question.

  • Represent the company in, report on, and advise internal stakeholders regarding litigation, administrative charges, and internal investigations, including drafting responses to administrative charges and oversight and management of external counsel.

  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements.

  • Proactively partner with the HR Team to build efficient processes that mitigate risk and maintain compliance with existing and forthcoming new employment laws and regulations.

  • Coordinate and drive completion of employment related projects, including internal process reviews, policy reviews and new policy roll-out.

  • Develop creative approaches to managing and mitigating legal risks and resolving disputes in accordance with company philosophy.

  • Participate in creation and delivery of training on employment law matters.

  • Advise and help develop, amend, or modify employment policies and procedures.

  • Monitor external legal developments and emerging trends in employment law that impact the business and proactively provide advice and counsel to address them.

  • Work collaboratively and build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and other lawyers and staff across the legal department.

  • Maintaining awareness of legal environment through reading of legal publications, on-line resources, and attendance at seminars and conferences.

  • Reviewing and approving of external law firm charges in accordance with corporate retention policy. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Experience of working with a major City law firm advising on employment law matters.

  • Recent in-house experience in insurance company or other financial services organisation is preferred.

  • Experience of Prudential Regulation Authority /Financial Conduct Authority and other regulatory authorities, specifically around Non-Financial Misconduct and application of the Conduct Rules.

  • General industry and regulatory knowledge is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with the business at all levels, including senior management.

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Building strong internal and external client relationships.

  • Effective use of technology and automation.

  • A team player.

  • Unquestionable integrity .

  • Awareness of legal developments affecting Travelers Europe.

  • Admitted to Practice in England and Wales.
