Why this job matters?

The role of Data Privacy and Security Professional supports the Data Privacy and Information Architect and the strategy covering data handling and the use of policies, procedures, working practices to assist in raising awareness of compliance with legislation regulating all aspects of the storage, use and disclosure of personal data.

Role Accountabilities:

Supports the Data Privacy guidance into BT Corporate Units/Group work streams covering:

• The identification and management of personal data types

• The application of BT Information Retention criteria to those data types

• The security and access controls required for those data types ns service.

• The following of data governance policies and practices throughout Corporate Units and BT group.

• Seeks out, analyses and investigates Data Risks within Corporate Units/Group and delivers outcomes within a confined remit and reports on findings to team members. Supporting the enhancement of data security practices in reducing risks.

• Identifies more complex issues and seeks support from manager to guide resolution.

• Provides input to key problem-solving activities.

• Coordinates and executes activities within Corporate Units/Group that supports Group policies and standards and develops a basic awareness and a range of skills within the privacy community, communicating the benefits of following these policies and procedures.

• Delivers the communications around risk, compliance, assurance and group learning within Corporate Units/Group by applying Group policies and standards, understanding how managing risk and compliance can impact our customers and business performance.

• Contributes to improving working processes within Corporate Units/Group. Supporting collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure acceptance and sponsorship for data governance policy.

• Accountable for stewarding, leading and partnering with the business, ensuring all business activities are carried out in accordance with local legislative requirements, which enhance and protect BT for now and the future.

• Supports the monitoring of data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and privacy and monitor overall data quality.

• Executes the documenting and implementing of data governance policies, standards, and procedures in existing and new data environments.

  • Assurance - You apply your understanding to consider the design and operation of policies, standards and control activities in an area of the business. You help to identify the appropriate outcomes and check actions are completed to standards and in agreed timeframes.

  • Security excellence - You use your knowledge of threat, risk and associated security technologies to design and deliver secure solutions. You contribute to a culture of putting the security of our people, business and customers at the heart of every decision.

  • Operational security - You coordinate routine Data Privacy and Security activities, escalating any non-standard issues and potential risks. You use tools and analytics to identify and monitor threats and vulnerabilities and assist your team to respond appropriately.

  • Be tech savvy - You develop and contribute to knowledge of new technologies, how they're used in our business and in others.

  • Business partnership and consulting - You win the trust of stakeholders by addressing their concerns to help them achieve their long term goals. You help customers explore and understand their wider business challenges and suggests solutions and improvements.
