Why Does this Job Matter

• This is an important financial reporting role, reporting directly to the Financial Reporting controller for the Openreach central function.

• You will be accountable for all aspects of financial reporting impacting the Capex and Balance Sheet / Cash (Working Capital) performance of Openreach.

• You’ll need to understand risks, assumptions and drivers of business performers,to be able to articulate the underlying Capex and Balance Sheet / Cash (Working Capital) performance of Openreach against the MTP commitments.

• You’ll also get a fantastic overview across Openreach and support the wider controller community in successful delivery of the unit result

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities

• Coordinate Openreach month-end Capex/EWC/Cash results reporting and analysis

• Generate, understand and explain the end to end Openreach Capex and Cash stories clearly and concisely. This includes presentation to the CFO.

• Represent Openreach at relevant reviews with BT including WD9 Cash, Balance Sheet and Holistic Filing reviews

• Holding regular Balance Sheet deep dives with business unit finance teams and providing coaching and support on working capital reporting

• Develop a deep understanding and interpretation of Balance Sheet KPI’s

• Operate and evidence relevant key controls over financial reporting

• Work closely with auditors to ensure a smooth audit process

• Provide support for accounting policy matters relating to the Balance Sheet e.g. Bad Debt Provision, IFRS16, VAT

Skills and experience expected

• Pragmatic team player, adept at holding others to account through a challenging and supportive leadership style, whilst consistently delivering on their own commitments

• An expert in their field – with experience of and credibility in engaging across the business

• An ability to matrix-manage cross-business teams to complex and multi-phase solutions

• Leader and coach to others both within own team and elsewhere, formulates their operational guidelines or in-depth knowledge and advises on specialist area

• Leads, champions and manages conflicting priorities with ownership of successful delivery of key organisation-wide finance programmes

• Sets agendas, identifies opportunities and promotes the highest standards of best practice and provides insight on finance work area(s) or specialism

• Qualified Accountant.
