Why this job matters

We are seeking a skilled and experienced AWS DevOps Engineer who has a strong background in CI/CD pipelines, SysOps administration, and cloud networking.

You will be joining BT's dynamic software engineering team. The agile software engineering team supports broadband services for millions of BT customers, manages the BT TV platform (including BT Sport), handles media and broadcast channels, configures home hubs and set-top boxes, and generates big data analytics for BT Broadband and BT TV.

As a AWS DevOps engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust cloud infrastructure solutions, ensuring efficient and reliable delivery of software applications and services.

What you’ll be doing

  • CI/CD Pipeline Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Terraform, AWS CodePipeline, or equivalent.

  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes to ensure high-quality releases.

  • Monitor and optimize pipeline performance and security.

  • SysOps Administration:

  • Manage and administer AWS infrastructure, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, and other AWS services.

  • Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

  • Ensure high availability and scalability of the infrastructure.

  • Implement and maintain security best practices and compliance requirements.

  • Cloud Networking :

  • Design and configure secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud networks.

  • Manage VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, and network ACLs.

  • Implement and manage VPN connections, Direct Connect, and other network connectivity options.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Collaboration and Support :

  • Work closely with development teams to understand their needs and provide infrastructure and deployment solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement DevOps best practices.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

What you'll bring

Mandatory

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.

  • Demonstrable experience in designing, implementing, and managing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong SysOps administration skills with a focus on automation and infrastructure as code (IaC).

  • Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts and best practices.

  • Proficiency with AWS tools and services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and Lambda.

  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes or ECS.

  • Be able to read, review and write code in Python / Bash /or similar

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or similar certifications.

Nice to have:

  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.

  • Experience with serverless architecture and services (e.g., AWS Lambda, API Gateway).

  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch Logs.

  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile development environments.
